Just announced duke and duchess of Sussex new baby’s names
Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor
What do other gransnetters think of it?
I think it’s ok!

Bellasnana Wed 08-May-19 16:54:11

My father’s name was Archie! I love it.?

phoenix Wed 08-May-19 16:54:54

Surprised it wasn't Albert (to be known as Bertie) Spencer Tec also surprised by Archie, as it's quite popular.

phoenix Wed 08-May-19 16:55:55

"Tec"??? How the neck did that get in there?

Sara65 Wed 08-May-19 17:11:29

Yes, Archie is sweet, it’s a good name

crazyH Wed 08-May-19 17:16:55

I was expecting Spencer, just to honour Diana

Urmstongran Wed 08-May-19 17:32:41

Alfie? These ‘shortened’ names such as ‘Charlie’ and ‘Olly’ etc are very fashionable nowadays. Baby Sussex will be on trend with his peers.

Archie is a popular name at DGS nursery and school.

Harrison. Harry's son????wink

Grandma70s Wed 08-May-19 17:43:33

I think it’s awful. I know diminutives are fashionable in some circles (though I wouldn’t have thought it was Harry’s circles), and I would find Archie tolerable if his full given name was Archibald - not that I like it. Give the child a proper name, call him by any nickname you like.

crazyH Wed 08-May-19 17:45:23

Oh yes Cherrytree....good thinking

withany Wed 08-May-19 17:49:36

I think you could be right cherrytree59

.........mmm! don't really like it, I do think the name sounds great on a woman strangely, Archie Panjabi, the British Asian actress, for example. On a male not so sure, particularly as it's short for Archibald and that's really horrible. Would Cary Grant have got anywhere with Archibald Leach for a moniker hmm

Anniebach Wed 08-May-19 17:54:15

I don’t like it

Urmstongran Wed 08-May-19 17:59:56

It’s not like he’s going to need his name on a c.v. in the future ....

Mmm - they sound like they should be on that list of names most feared by primary-school teachers.

Kittye Wed 08-May-19 18:05:30

Not keen on Harrison but think Archie is quite cute.
But then it’s not my baby. Happy for them ?

BlueBelle Wed 08-May-19 18:10:31

Not keen on Archie although it’s a very popular and current name Love the Harry’s son bit, Harrison great idea
But they love it obviously and that’s all that matters there will be plenty that think it’s awful just for the sake of thinking anything Meghan does is awful
A good and I would imagine a popular choice
Harry looks so happy holding the little man

seacliff Wed 08-May-19 18:13:32

It's nice to see something a bit different. Could have been a really weird American name, which I probably wouldn't have liked so much. They are happy with it, their choice.

CanadianGran Wed 08-May-19 18:13:32

Although Archie is a good old-fashioned name, I also thought it was a nickname for Archibald. I'm a bit surprised they wouldn't give a more formal name, then shorten it. I tend to think of farmers when I hear the name.
Oh well, he is a sweet babe and will grow into his name! Maybe he will be a famous gardener like his grandfather.

Kandinsky Wed 08-May-19 18:14:11

Chav tastic.

Awful names.

phoenix Wed 08-May-19 18:17:05

My beloved grandfather was Archibald, always just know as Arch, never Archie!

My word what judgemental old biddys some of you are

Sara65 Wed 08-May-19 18:23:15

Oh come on! Can we just stop criticising, it’s not our baby, not our choice!

Kandinsky Wed 08-May-19 18:25:16

old biddys hmm

How ageist & rude.
