"Dreich" is voted most iconic Scots word, beating off contenders like "glaikit" and "shoogle".

Dreich has previously been voted favourite Scots word.

What's your favourite word ?

Obsequious. Discovered it many years ago but I seldom get the chance to use it.

Tintinnabulation. It sounds like-it’s meaning ....so many lovely words provided by others. With our language being rich in fabulous words why do I so frequently resort to referring to( predominantly techy ) objects as the doodah, thingamy, whotsit etc etc.

Actually, my 2nd favourite word is incandescent. "I was incandescent with rage". Great!

Great words on here. Sadly, and I hope I don't offend any GN's, but, when I have had the day from hell, my favourite word is Boll***s! Can't beat it! grin

I've always liked the word "dirge" because it sounds like what it denotes - a slow and solemn piece of music.

"gathering" and "together" are nice word.

My least favourite word is an ugly sounding word for an ugly idea. It begins with b and ends in t and I wish it had never been invented.
