lemongrove Sun 01-Mar-20 12:52:21

The Welsh headmaster at our childrens primary school used to give out full sized Mars Bars to all😁

Happy St David's Day1

It is also my BiL's 80th birthday but he has had to cancel the party because he and his wife have been advised to self-isolate!

Anniebach Sun 01-Mar-20 13:09:54

Like the day to fall on a week day, to see the little girls going to
school in their Welsh outfits with a daffodil and the Boys in
Welsh rugby shirts with leeks.

My elder daughter when in junior school nearly killed the class hamster by sharing a leek !

Happiest day was elder granddaughter winning both the Crown and Chair in the school Eistefford, only child to have won both. She was a titch so her little legs dangled over the edge of the bardic chair and the crown nearly touched her eyes 😀

lemongrove Sun 01-Mar-20 13:14:32

Aww, how sweet ( the Eistefford, not the hamster harming)😁
Where is the Welsh dragon emoji? I will root about and try and find it.....
dragon
Here it is!

Diolch pawb / Thanks everyone.
Looking forward to singing with our community choir this afternoon.

Thank you lemon 😀

English men put their wives on a pedestal, Welshmen put
their wives on a flag !

Happy St David's Day to all you lovely Welsh people, can't find an appropriate emoticon such as a leek, a dragon or even the humble daffodil, but I'll raise a cup of tea and munch on a piece of bara brith (virtual sadly) to Wales and hope the flooding subsides asap. In the meantime dreaming of sunny days overlooking one of the most jaw dropping spectacular beaches of the British Isles that is Rhossili x

NotSpaghetti Sun 01-Mar-20 13:33:33

I am with you all in song and in spirit.

Anniebach Sun 01-Mar-20 13:35:49

Rhossili is beautiful, I long to walk on Worms Head again.

Just received a photograph from elder granddaughter, on the
ski slopes in Bulgaria and waving the Welsh Flag. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The school Eisteddfod was held early, on Friday, and not that many girls dressed in traditional costume. They seem to prefer rugby tops, Welsh flag t shirts, daffodil outfits these days!

BBbevan Sun 01-Mar-20 16:44:47

When I was a child we wore our best clothes to school on St David’s Day and we had a concert ( all in Welsh) in the morning. The afternoon we went home. Just the half day
.
It was lovely in Carmarthen yesterday. A long procession, lots of flags, a brass band and clog dancers. We were having tea and Welsh cakes at the time

AGAA4 Sun 01-Mar-20 16:49:07

I celebrated here in Wales with some friends. We had lamb for our lunch. The restaurant had no daffodils!

Chestnut Sun 01-Mar-20 17:10:53

Happy St David's Day!! 🥂 🙋‍♀️
My mother was 100% Welsh from Edeirnion although I live in England. I feel a very close link to all things Welsh, the mountains, the harps, the history. I can pronounce the words but can't speak the language (she never taught me although the family all spoke Welsh around the table 😥) My daughters won the school fancy dress competition (years ago) dressed in national Welsh costumes. I was so proud! 😍

Callistemon Sun 01-Mar-20 17:24:33

Wow Chestnut how did you do that?

Well done

lemongrove Sun 01-Mar-20 17:28:36

Are you hiding behind the flag, waving it Chestnut ?😄

Chestnut Sun 01-Mar-20 17:36:20

Ha ha! I surprised myself when it came up blowing in the wind! I wasn't sure if GN would take it. It's a GIF file that I downloaded from the internet some years ago. They are little attachments that move, and you can put them into e-mails too.
