I am 76, and have always ignored sell by Dates! Mostly just a few weeks over, but family tell me off. I once had a tin of beans explode on me !

When I leave this world my epitaph should say “she was well past her sell by date” ?

Re Spike Milligan again "I told you I was ill".

felice Sun 11-Apr-21 13:48:54

My University credentials and other awards, for all the patronising folk who think they are better than I am because they sit on their arses in an office all day.

Pantglas2 Sun 11-Apr-21 13:49:20

I’m the opposite to Spike so I’ll have “...but she was never ill !”

Life is a jest, and all things show it;
I thought so once, and now I know it.

It was good enough for John Gay, so it’s good enough for me.

I would like ‘she lit up the room’ but it’s more likely to be, hardworking and honest?

Greyduster Sun 11-Apr-21 15:05:48

She gave of her best, and hoped it was good enough.

I like this story though-
A Yorkshire widower who asked for a biblical epitaph on his late wife's headstone saying “Lord, she was thine”. Distressed by the result - "Lord, she was thin" - he told the mason he had missed out an "e". Returning to check the result of his complaint, he was further distressed to read: "Ee Lord, she was thin".

‘Now hoovering in Heaven’ - I love hoovering!!!!!

I doubt very much if I’ll even have a burial.
My body will be donated. They keep the body for 3 years and then ask the family if they want it back.
Knowing my lot they won’t bother. But I will go in the ‘ Hall of Fame’ where my body has been kept. ?

Casdon Sun 11-Apr-21 15:45:08

Mine should say:
‘Even the Queen of Procrastination could not put it off for ever’

LauraNorder Sun 11-Apr-21 16:16:30

Nanna58, let’s hope they don’t leave an o out

Kim19 Sun 11-Apr-21 16:20:34

'She was okay' would do nicely for me except........NO headstone.

None the bloody wiser!

I once saw on a lovely seat in a graveyard a memorial that said"She was the wind beneath our wings", at the time I thought it so touching. Well, my two have certainly flown one to the other end of the country the other to the other side of the world. I hope it doesn't say a lot about me.

Billybob4491 Fri 28-May-21 16:19:17

She has now taken her rightful place in Heaven!

ginny Fri 28-May-21 17:03:40

Tried her best and was good enough.

Luckygirl Fri 28-May-21 17:10:17

Mine is settled - it is already there on my OH's grave.

"I rest in the grace of the world and am free." It is a quote from Canadian poet/farmer Wendell Berry,

Simple! As a long time insomniac
“asleep-at last!”

justwokeup Fri 28-May-21 19:20:56

Agreed Newquay. Mine would say
'A blissfully uninterrupted rest at last!'

vampirequeen

She never watched Titanic or bought a scratchcard.

Titanic because I hate the way they 'adapted' history and hung a totally unrealistic love story onto a tragedy.

Scratchcards because they make gambling too easy by being on sale everywhere rather than making you go to a specified place like a bookies or wait for the result like a lottery.

Good heavens! That's a bit niche!
Does your reluctance to watch a particular film and engage in casual gambling really define you?
If so - mine could be:
'She never ate eggs, and thought that Carol Vorderman was over-exposed'

My husband has been a Memorial Mason for 50 plus years. He is a wonderful artist and sculptor/ letter engraver, and has created many a fitting epitaph for the families of the deceased.

Neither of us want to be remembered in stone having seen so many unattended graves and the sorry state they get into. It is a sad fact that once the immediate family have gone, who takes on the ownership of the grave?

fiorentina51 Fri 28-May-21 20:08:23

Onward and Upward....I hope.

Savvy Fri 28-May-21 20:27:18

My friend who died a couple of years ago has 'Much loved battleaxe off the wreak havoc,' on hers. It just about summed her up.

Kim19 Fri 28-May-21 20:30:06

'She was OK' would suit me fine if I was having one but... perish the thought!
