I know little about politics but if Jeremy Corbyn started his own political party, socialist independent, then I'd ask to join it.

Not that it’d worry me - harder-left parties never do well in U.K. general elections.
All it’d do would be to split the Labour vote - and very likely let the Tories in again.

This is what Jeremy said as reported in The Guardian. It seems a fair point to me.

“Pouring arms in isn’t going to bring about a solution, it’s only going to prolong and exaggerate this war,” Corbyn said. “We might be in for years and years of a war in Ukraine.”

“What I find disappointing is that hardly any of the world’s leaders use the word peace; they always use the language of more war, and more bellicose war.”

He added: “This war is disastrous for the people of Ukraine, for the people of Russia, and for the safety and security of the whole world, and therefore there has to be much more effort put into peace.”

I would too. I don't like all of his beliefs, but he is the nearest to an honest politician I've seen in a very long time.

All the things the right-wing said were stunts or for the media, he is still just quietly doing now.

He's a social democrat. Not a communist. If you don't know the difference, I really don't think you should be mocking another poster.

To my mind one of the key problems facing the left is that many people can't tell the difference between socialist and communist. Right wing papers do all they can to perpetuate this misunderstanding.

I recently said to someone who was disenchanted with the Tory party that there are alternatives if she wishes to vote differently. Her reply was that as the only alternative is communism she will continue to vote Tory.

Possibly because in 1991 they stopped holding an annual congress when their numbers dipped to just over 4000. Not enough really to field any candidates anywhere.

I totally agree with this but how do you talk peace to someone like Putin? He doesn't care about his fellow Russians and will continue to use them as cannon fodder until he gets what he wants and if he is given any part of Ukraine as a "peace offering", he'll do exactly what he did in 2014. ie leave it for the dust to settle then march into Ukraine and demand some more. You cannot appease someone like Putin and as long as Ukraine refuses to surrender, we have to stand with them and help. I wonder if Corbyn would have appeased Hitler is he'd been in power???

What he is saying about the invasion of Ukraine is valid, why all the talk of war and not of peace?

I am not a fan of extreme politics of any hue, and the extreme Britain First stuff we are getting from the two candidates for PM is terrifying, but we can be sure that the usual Non Dom newspaper owners will start their propoganda, their readers will be told (and believe) that Corbyn is a communist or a marxist. Just consider before some of you call for Corbyn's head on a spike, or even worse, use him as a reason to vote Tory; he warned us all that the Tories plan on selling off the NHS by stealth.

Unfortunately he ll never do well because the media have totally annihilated him with a lot of lies and bad press in my opinion but I m not so sure he’s the bad man he’s made out to be he might be I don’t know enough about him but my gut feeling is that he didn’t stand a chance

Not sure how that transformed into not knowing the difference.

It was my response to Caleos belief that withdrawing support and allowing Russia to take Ukraine would be the lesser of two evils.

Obviously the people of the Ukraine don’t believe that. They chose to die rather come under Russian domination.

For the record I respect Jeremy Corbyn as a man of principle in much the same way that I respected the late Tony Benn. But I have never considered him leadership material.

Agree. But principles are a good thing. Something which all the would be and current Tory leader are totally devoid of.
