When you do crossing outs, it doesn't work, just because you put a " straight after it! And this bolding probably won't work because I have put an exclamation mark right in front of the *!

*bit

But of a faff though.

Bathsheba Thu 23-May-19 08:24:11

crossed out
For some strange reason reason it works if you put just one dash and then go back and do another dash before the first one, not after hmm

Auntieflo Thu 23-May-19 08:16:29

Thank you Mamissimo for the dash-n-dash-and-m-dash explanation. who'd a thought that there were all these variations.
I thought a dash, was a dash!
The strikethrough used to work, but doesn't now, so as you said, over to the techies now.

Mamissimo Thu 23-May-19 08:05:47

It’s those pesky Ens and Ems!

So I think it’s right that our problem is that IPad keyboards only have one multipurpose dash and it’s not taken care of in the back-end code at the moment.

Over to you Cary ?

gillybob Thu 23-May-19 07:38:31

_yes it does_

On mine it’s just the strike through that doesn’t .

Anja Thu 23-May-19 06:53:11

h underline works on iPad ?

BlueBelle Wed 22-May-19 19:05:25

I also have no idea what ‘n’ and ‘m’ dashes are I only have one dash and that’s where the x is on the keyboard

Auntieflo Wed 22-May-19 18:51:42

Perhaps JackieB will come back and kindly explain the n and m dash conundrum?

ninathenana Wed 22-May-19 15:40:57

That puzzled me to Auntieflo

This is one of those weird "works on yours but not on mine" things.
The same as dare I mention it, the tool bar, which I still can't use angry

Gonegirl Wed 22-May-19 14:12:35

I was wondering that. confused (as always)

Auntieflo Wed 22-May-19 11:09:18

Please, what is an m dash and and an n dash?

Gonegirl Wed 22-May-19 11:07:02

Oh yes, I did. Sorry. Mustn't gloat. ?

Gonegirl Wed 22-May-19 11:05:49

I might have said that before.

Gonegirl Wed 22-May-19 11:05:28

Works ok on my iPad.

Gonegirl Wed 22-May-19 11:05:09

hello

Mamissimo Wed 22-May-19 10:06:11

Cari - please can you tell us when the gnomes have fixed it? —thank you—!

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 22-May-19 09:19:22

Hmmmm

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 22-May-19 09:17:53

----Though...

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 22-May-19 09:17:30

Ooooh. On it

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 22-May-19 09:17:20

—trying on my phone—

JackyB Wed 22-May-19 09:10:02

It looks like the iPad uses m-dashes rather than the usual n-dashes.

Is there another hyphen on the iPad keyboard somewhere? I've never used any Apple devices and I don't know anyone who does so I can't check.

Some programs convert two n-dashes into an m-dash.

- this is not an n-dash

I don't have an m-dash nor does my keyboard automatically convert. I think they are rather outdated and becoming obsolete. Victorian books are littered with them!

Anniebach Wed 22-May-19 09:03:33

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Learned yesterday the Red Cross gives support for new mobility scooter users to gain confidence in using them, Fred can come out of early retirement

Hope everyone has a good day x

Auntieflo Wed 22-May-19 08:54:39

That was on my IPad.
Is it an Apple thing, or just a GN site problem?

Auntieflo Wed 22-May-19 08:50:47

I have only just found this, and the dash dash thing used to work, and now, as you say they, the dashes just join up, and no strikethrough. What’s going on?
