Deleted PMs - This is important

I was concerned to find that some of my private messages around 20 December last year have disappeared, apparently “deleted at user request”.
Well I certainly did not delete them so the question is “which user” ?
How can anybody interfere with private messages- I thought the clue was in the name.
Izabella Annodomini and Lemongrove might like to check theirs too.
Coincidentally they were generally on the same topic.
Is Big Brother not only watching us but censoring our mail?
I take a dim view of this breach of confidentiality if that is indeed the case .

A PM from you to me and some others dated December has apparently been withdrawn at your request. Did you ask for it to be withdrawn?

lemongrove Mon 18-Feb-19 21:09:53

Thinking about it, didn’t HQ say ( some time ago) that they would delete pms more than several weeks old ( or did I dream it?)

Jane10 Mon 18-Feb-19 21:11:27

I've got much older ones than the one Mawbroon allegedly withdrew.

MawBroon Mon 18-Feb-19 21:16:27

No Jane10 I didn’t and I am seriously unhappy at what I see as a breach of privacy

lemongrove Mon 18-Feb-19 21:18:34

Quite! Off to check pms now.

Chewbacca Mon 18-Feb-19 21:36:11

I'll check mine too.....

janeainsworth Mon 18-Feb-19 21:43:24

I’ve had a message deleted too, sent last August.
Not from Maw though, from another poster who come to think of it, I haven’t ‘seen’ for a while. hmm

Squiffy Mon 18-Feb-19 21:44:21

How odd! Three of mine - Inbox and Sent - have also been deleted at the other GN's request. (11th January 2019) I haven't gone through all my pms, which go way back!

Jane10 Mon 18-Feb-19 21:44:22

That is sinister Maw! Big brother indeed. However, it was copied to quite a few of us. Could one of the others have asked for its removal?

MissAdventure Mon 18-Feb-19 21:47:07

I had some (all from the same person) which I assumed were one and the same message, because when I replied, the message duplicated 3 times.
I thought the deleted ones were perhaps unwanted duplicates.
This was just about 3 days ago.

Some of my messages have been deleted too - all from the same poster. Apparently they were removed at the users request

Chewbacca Mon 18-Feb-19 21:49:18

shock 4 of my pm messages have been deleted, all saying " this message has been removed at user request".

1 message on 31.12 18 from Jalima
1 message on 30.12 18 from lemongrove
4 messages on 26.12.18 from lemongrove
2 messages on 20.12.18 from MawBroon
1 message on 09.12.2018 from MawBroon

I've never contacted GNHQ to ask for any messages to be deleted. Why would I? What's going on GNHQ? angry

dragonfly46 Mon 18-Feb-19 21:51:08

Mine were all on 29/11/18 by oldbatty.

Chewbacca Mon 18-Feb-19 21:51:29

Sent messages also deleted. Same people involved too.

Marydoll Mon 18-Feb-19 21:51:53

I have had one deleted in January from one of the posters mentioned above.
I thought at the time, the poster regretted messaging me. Very sinister indeed.

MissAdventure Mon 18-Feb-19 21:52:35

The plot thickens..

POGS Mon 18-Feb-19 21:58:09

I have checked my list of pm's and there are certain posters pm's who have a message saying :-

' This message has been removed at users request.'

I am very annoyed as I know one pm was merely wishing me a Happy Xmas.

It is certain this applies to GN Users not a time line that have been subject to deletion.

I send or receive very few Pm's but I am interested to know if any of mine are known to have been removed presumably by GNHQ.

I know today 2 old pm's that had 'This message has been removed at users request.' ' against them have disappeared completely as though to leave no trace of this happening.

Those pm' s could have held information I wished to keep but they have disappeared and I find this beyond alarming.

Chewbacca Mon 18-Feb-19 21:58:27

The pms weren't anything subversive or contentious but, judging by the dates, they seem to have been wishing those people a merry Christmas or happy New Year and one was about a car; hardly breaking any rules!

Marydoll Mon 18-Feb-19 21:59:14

Found another four from a different poster removed at beginning of January, totally unoccupied chat.??
What is going on?

Marydoll Mon 18-Feb-19 22:00:20

Meant to be INOCCUOUS

MissAdventure Mon 18-Feb-19 22:01:56

Mine were from somebody not on anyone else's list, and about my recent 'incident'.
I thought it strange that she had contacted gransnet and asked for (what I thought were) duplicate messages to be deleted.

Marydoll Mon 18-Feb-19 22:03:43

Found four messages I sent on 4th January have been removed at my request.

I certainly DID NOT ask for their removal!!!

lemongrove Mon 18-Feb-19 22:05:06

I don’t think it’s anything sinister folks.
I think it may well be, that when you clear old messages from your inbox, recipients get the message ‘deleted at users request’ or similar. All they are doing is clearing away old messages, and not snubbing a poster.

MissAdventure Mon 18-Feb-19 22:05:31

I wonder if this is anything to do with the security issue on mumsnet?
Apparently users there found that some of them could access others' accounts.
