How we pee (advert)

For the last couple of days, when I open my Gransnet letter, there is a partial picture of someone sitting on a loo, with an article telling us how to pee.
Do we Grans really need such a thing?
If they need to advertise, can't it be at the end of the Gransnet subjects list? Or is this allied to a Mumsnet thing, again?

Knowing 'how to pee' correctly is very important. I doubt that the majority of women are aware that there is a correct way to pass urine.
It is important to completely empty the bladder and the way in which a woman sits on the lavatory is crucial to this.
Feet should be flat on the floor. Elbows on knees. Try it. It works.

I think these newsletters are sent out by Mumsnet. Do they think old ladies buy Tena because they have never learnt how to pee? Are they taking the piss? Is it a follow-on from teaching us how to suck eggs?

I'm glad someone else has got it as well. It plagued me all day yesterday and is there today.
I thought it was a personal message and Big Brother had found out I had had anti-biotics from the GP for a urinary tract infection last week.
The big joke is I was doing what it tells you and actually passed out with the pain and fell off the loo.[grin}

Keeping feet flat on the floor won't save them from Tena Lady.

I haven't seen this - but expect I will now! grin

My GP told me to ensure I completely emptied my bladder when I visited the loo. She said retained urine can cause UTIs. I had suffered from quite a few UTIs at the time. However the thing that helped most with that was starting on Ovestin, a low dose HRT cream, used locally in the vaginal area a couple of times a week.

Feet flat, elbows on knees may well save women from UTI's though.
Not sure why you felt it necessary to respond with a negative comment.

I haven’t had that one yet!
I did once read that standing up after the initial flow, and then having another go, was a good way to avoid retained urine.

Either way, IMO useful info for anyone prone to UTIs.

*Elegran's' comment is realistic, not negative.

I was referring back to my own previous comment at 09:52:03. I was being perfectly relevant to that, and not negative at all. However I am happy to be negative about an advert that shows someone sitting peeing. That may show my opinions as old-fashioned. Sorry about that, but I am what I am. I have had 84 years of "indoctrination" in what is good or bad taste to portray

On the subject of the ad described (which I have not seen) as distinct from the way it is illustrated, it is good advice, but there are other things that also help prevent UTIs.

Being old enough to lose interest in sex, or to lose a partner, makes a very large contribution. That hints at the importance of sexual and personal hygeine, for both partners, before and after the act, and of suitable lubrication. Too much sugar in the diet can encourage the growth of yeast and the infections that feeds, so can underwear that is tight and/or made of a non-absorbent material that doesn't allow the body to "breathe". If all these plus the "how to pee" advice still don't work, then finding the right medication for the individual could make a difference.

I haven't seen that one.
But I do remember Supervet Noel explaining that we are all naturally forward peeing creatures, so I try not to tilt backwards when I wee!

Theexwife Thu 28-Sep-23 14:53:09

As UTIs are common in older people maybe they don't know how to completely empty their bladder, so useful advice for them.

Quite right. When emptying your bowls the sitting position is important.

Just had passing thought - where else would your feet be other than flat on the floor? Resting on side of bath? Dangling (if very short with a tall loo)? En pointe?

On my last trip to America I noticed that my old physio friend and my doctor friend from years ago both had squat stools in the bathroom - as did my son and partner.

I was advised to use a stool to lift my feet and create a squat position by a very enlightened GP many years ago.

Obviously there are 100s of versions available but here is one:
