What's your favourite perfume?

I am also allergic to perfume. I can't remember where I read or heard or was told this but I spray perfume into my hair (although not near my head - fortunately I don't have short short hair!)

I remember Le Galion Sortilege!! - only just though - -EM we obviously had the same taste years ago!!

Kiku was always my favourite - I also liked Yardley Caprice but that has disappeared as well.

I remember Charlie being a great favourite in the '70's, and Rive Gauche, Tweed was for Mums and Grannies and Chanel No 5 Was too expensive for a nurse to buy. I love White Linen, Allure, and Elle by YSL. I wear a few of the M and S ones for work saving my better stuff for going out. I'm very lucky as I have an American D.I.L who works for a fashion magazine in New York. When we visit I can raid their cupboard for the makeup and perfume sent to the magazine in the hopes of a good write up. I had a lovely YSL perfume from that cupboard that never made it to the shelves.
The best smell in the world is the back of a baby's neck after it's had a bath.

I used to love Kiku's talc in a large round yellow container! What happened to it, I wonder?

My favourite perfume is Diorissimo, but the most practical (and second favourite) is Clinique's Elixir because they make it in a small bottle which fits into my handbag.

The best smell in the world is behind my collie's ears, all warm and lovely. Not that I go around sniffing dogs' ears you understand!

I do wear perfume and love Ralph Lauren's "Romance".

I love Estee Lauder Youth Dew, but only on other people. On me it smells like wet beds.
My favourites at the moment are Clinique's Aromatics Elixir and Karma from Lush.

My children have had to learn not to wear perfume/aftershave if we're going to be together indoors, as in the past it has resulted in me having asthma attacks. In recent years though I find that I can tolerate SOME perfumes on others if they're not too overwhelming.
I've discovered that if I am in good health on a particular day I can wear a small amount of Coco Mademoiselle sprayed on my wrists and the back of my neck. Can't spray where I might breathe it in though.

Several times I've had to ask to move to another seat in theatres and cinemas in order to escape other people's fragrances. Mostly, managers are sympathetic I'm happy to say.

Thanks for the suggestion grumpyoldwoman, I have received my tiny bottle of Amazing grace toilet water from Ebay. It is very fresh with a hint of citrus and I love it.

I love "Beautiful" by Esther Lauder.

"Organza" by Givenchy.

"Anais Anais" by Cacheral (sp).

I love Happy by Clinique - lovely light and fresh for every day and Jean Paul Gaultier for the evening - also Stella by Stella McCartney is lovely. I also remember Youth Dew in the 60's - very heavy and seemed to get stronger as the day went on - not very subtle!

For me it has to be Chanel No. 5 or Coco.
In my youth it used to be KiKu though.

Perfume smells are wonderfully evocative. I remember using some of those already mentionned - Rive Gauche, 'Y', L'Aimant and I use to use one called 'Apple Blossom' but I can't remember who it was made by. It was very fresh and so it was lovely for daytime. But my all time fav in the 60's and 70's was 'Madame Rochas'. Don't know if you can still get it but no doubt I can find out online somewhere. One I've got now that I really like is Angel. Trouble is DH has a very sensitive nose and I haven't so I have to be soaked in it for me to smell it and that sets him off sneezing and complaining that his nose 'hurts'!!

yes grannyactivist ...like you have skin reactions to many perfumes ...red, itchy if not actual huge welts. Doctor very sympathetic ...(wouldn't happen with today's NHS ...but that could be a different thread) ...sent me off for skin allergy tests ...done on my back ...so couldn't see what was being applied where.

Learnt that there are basically two families of perfumes ...all perfumes fit into one or other catagory ...I am allergic to one of the families. Unfortunately perfume manufacturers ...do not have to list the ingredients ...so I've no way of knowing which perfumes to try. This also means I can't use soaps with perfumes or use any deoderants that contain perfumes.

And yes ...perfumes/aftershaves that others wear can cause me to have an asthma attack ...but this also applies to some chemicla that are found in aerosal sprays ...they're banned in my house too ...but had never thought of asking to be moved in theatres ...though have moved in cinemas.

But my favourite perfume now ..which doesn't cause me any problems is Tova's Signature perfume ...you can only buy it here on one of the shopping channels ...the bonus is ...that people have often stopped me to ask me what perfume I'm wearing because they like it!!

jacey Yes, I also have the aerosol problem and don't even get me started on plug-in room fresheners! Aaargh!

I bought a gardenia plant in a pot the other day. The smell is gorgeous. I think Kate wore a Gardenia perfume on her wedding day.

I would like some of that.

Samsara by Givenchy is my favourite. I used to wear Ma Griffe which I thought was now unavailable but I saw it the other day, though now I can't remember where...

Correction; Samsara is by Guerlain. And I have now found Ma Griffe on Ebay - where else!

Eternity by Calvin Klein or White Linen by Elizabeth Arden for me :-)

I wear Jo Malone Vetiver. I bought myself a (small!) bottle at Harvey Nichs in Manchester, and have worn it ever since (not the same bottle!) - usually when someone else treats me! Before that I used to wear L'air Du Temps. I stood next to a lady in a lift recently who I was sure was wearing Blue Grass - I used to wear it a long long time ago! I didn't have the courage to ask her.

I still love Magie Mist by Lancome. It`s hard to come by now,so when I find some I stock up on it ! I was wearing it when I met my husband 45 years ago and the smell takes us both back to the heady summer of 1966 when we met on holiday. Mmmm Memories !
