What's your favourite perfume?

My mother used to wear 'Evening in Paris' ( Soir de Paris)
It came in a teeny blue bottle with a gold top. It came back a few years ago so I bought some thinking I would love it - but it smelled sort of blackerry and sickly,...
Now, I love Vivienne Westwood perfumes. I am not keen on flowery ones,..especially honeysuckle perfumes

Tramp ..!....I remember the last time I used that was when my (then) cat did something awful on a coat I'd nearly finished knitting. It didn't work. Couldn't face wearing it after that!

It was good to be reminded of Aqua Manda and Kiku, which was indeed yelow and supposed to smell of chrysanthemums. Also interesting to hear how many of you have had problems with perfumes - ever since my first pregnancy 27 years ago, I've found most scent overpowering and headachy, just about tolerating Body Shop White Musk and Next Define. Just recently, though I've had a bit of a breakthrough, finding some light, sweet, talcy, ones that I really like. These are the unpromisingly named Versace Red Jeans and Baby Rose Jeans - the latter supposedly sold in America for CHILDREN! And also Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh - a bit pricey by my usual standards but I've just worn it and felt really good at my son's wedding.

Further to my post about Tramp perfume - I couldn't bear wearing the perfume after the cat had done the deed on the coat I was knitting...not the coat, which never did get completed..!

@ Groovygranny: Apple Blossom was by Helena Rubenstein. The body products came in rather kitsch pink plastic containers, I seem to remember. I loved it too. I was given Farouche by Nina Ricci by a special someone in 1979 and loved it. Bought some on eBay a few months ago and, sadly, it smelt like, well, like 30 year old perfume would be expected to smell, I guess. These days it's good old No5 and also Coco Mlle.

I love a very old perfume, Mitsouko by Guerlain.

Unfortunately DH hates it, (he is DH mark 2) so I feel that it must be off my list.

I tend to have Summer/Winter, daytime/evening perfumes and a current daytime favourite is Green Tea, by L'Occitane. Also another summer favourite is a Chanel Crystale.

On the cheap end, Avons Summer White often gets compliments!

My Granny used to give me pocket money, and when she visited a trip to Woolies was mandatory. We both loved it. "Evening in Paris" was six year old heaven. Specially when drenched in it!
Aqua Manda! What happened to it? Fab christmassy scent, and great for getting through Jan and Feb, as it usually arrived at Christmas.

Oh, Evening in Paris: how this always stood on my Mum's dressing table in its little blue bottle. She didn't have a lot of money so made it last. Some of the newer "name" fragrances don't last on me, but Chanel never lets me down, when I can afford it! I remember "Charlie": a dear uncle of that name always brought it for me, I never really liked it and used it to make the bathroom smell nice! Also have a cheapie called "Nantucket Briar", which my husband loves and it lingers all day.

Thanks to all who have replied about Ma Griffe, I'll keep looking for it.
Another one I remember is Geminisse by Max Factor, I loved it but it sometimes gave me a rash.
I love Rive Gauche by YSL, but it gives me a migraine.

Thank you feldmarschallin, I do indeed remember the pink plastic bottles. I think that what I used must have been the Eau de Cologne rather than the perfume (poor student, all I could afford) because that was in a pink plastic bottle. Must google it and see if you can still get it. Trouble is when they bring things back it's often never the same as the original eg. Tizer, the stuff in cans is tasteless, what we used to get in bottles had a distinctive taste. Or maybe it's just that my senses have dulled over the years!

My favourite scents are Eau de Rochas - very summery - Farouche, Nina Ricci, Diva and Paul Smith Woman.

I found Farouche and Eau de Rochas online, and loved them as much as I did 20 years ago.

The first perfume I remember was Max Factor Electrique. Tramp brought me out in a rash, though I liked the smell.

My problem with perfume is that I mostly forget to put it on if I am getting ready to go out...but I like to wear it at bedtime, and there's only me there!

Groovygranny, Apple Blossom was (I think) a Helena Rubenstien perfume. I remember it so very well. I was brought up by my Grandparents, (long story, maybe for another time) and didn't live with my mother until I was about 7.

She (my mother) used to come and visit. She was incredibly glamorous, and I always remember her bending down to kiss me, and the smell of her face powder and Apple Blossom perfume.

Shysal...only just caught up with this thread..so pleased you like it. I love the smell of my hair when I have used the shower gel/shampoo.

Anything by Jo Malone, Pomegranate noir in particular but keep a selection so that I can mix them.

Jo Malone's fragrances are lovely - expensive but lovely and beautifully packaged. Pomegranate Noir - to die for.

Currently using Rose by Paul Smith.

Ive worn Chamade by Guerlain for years, it's my favourite. I like Rush by Gucci too. Clinique Aromatics brings me out in a rash. I had forgotten about Ma Griffe I used to wear it When I was a teenager. Need to keep an eye open for it.

Jo Malone Wild Fig and Cassis - just running out of it - I have really made it last! My daughter gave me a bottle of Ma Griffe last Christmas, from eBay, I think, "for old times remembered" she said.

I always go back to Ma Griffe by Carven (the first bottle was bought by mistake 45 years ago in the duty free on a cross Channel ferry!). I also have Comme de Garcons no 2 (a full size free offer, 1st 10 shoppers with a voucher got one, years ago), Youth Dew by Estee Lauder, La Perla, Blue Grass (love it!), Azuree by Estee Lauder (annoys me after I've had it on a while). I like Guerlain's Vetiver (for men) and O by Lancome. When I'm ready to go out, I spray the perfume on my hands and then rub my hands on my hair.

PS I used to love Patchouli but hard to get now. Hubby says it smells like a Turkish brothel (wonder how he knows that?)

I always liked Ma Griffe and recently found some on Ebay. My favourite is Samsara, but it, too, is getting hard to find.

Burgins Perfumery in York sells Ma Griffe. Not sure if they do mail order but you can Google them and get contact details. It's a wonderful perfumery.

I used to love Helmut Lang but that was taken off the market.

When I was at junior school I absolutely loved Evening in Paris, but bought some last year and it just didn`t seem the same. In my teens I became very attached to In Love, by Norman Hartnell. In my 30s I was bought a perfume by Faberge, but can`t remember the name, it was gorgeous. My favourite nowadays is Tocade, by Rochas, but I also love Obsession, by Calvin Klein, and White Diamonds, by Elizabeth Taylor. As for 4711, my grandma bought me some when I was 11, I thought it was wonderful, but my evil stepsister pinched it!
