There are only a certain few that don't smell like burnt rubber or cat's pee on me! I'm fine with Rive Gauche or Anais Anais -even Avon Timeless is really good on me, but any of the newer ones just do nothing for me at all.

Does that mean you are keeping yours? grin

In 2002, I went n a day trip to Lilles, along with my daughter and daughter-in-law. Whilst there I bought some of my favourite perfume which was/is unavailable in shops over here, and was also handed some tiny free samples of some new perfumes. One I gave to one of my daughters, and we both fell in love with it, but have never been able to buy it here. I`ve found it on several websites, but they`ve all been in America, and shipping costs are enormous, but last week I miraculously found it being sold by a company in NI, trading through Amazon, so ordered 2, one each for me and my daughter, hers as a Christmas present. It arrived yesterday, and is broken and leaking everywhere! They`ve offered me a credit note, as they are now out of stock, but I`m so disappointed not to be surprising my daughter with it at Christmas.

I remember saying to my mum, who was a little over the top when it came to cleaning, "Ooh, you do smell of disinfectant". Her reply, "That's my new Estee Lauder you cheeky b****r!". blush

Givenchy III - can only seem to get in departure lounges! As I suffer with skin problems I have to be very careful what perfume I use and this is one which suits me but was withdrawn. Givenchy must have had thousands of requests as about 3 years later it is back on sale.

I also use Avon's Black Suede Eau de Toilette Spray (I know it is for men, but it suits me and I have been complimented on my "perfume" when using it!)

Coco by Chanel, as well as no 5 , I always come back to that one! I also love Eau des Jardins by Clarins for light daily use, try it ......

jogginggirl Fri 11-Nov-11 22:01:12

Always Chanel No. 5 - has been for years..............

tanith Fri 11-Nov-11 19:27:07

One I've used for many years is Guerlains Shalimar , my son bought me some Flower by Kenzo which I also like...

MercyLily Fri 11-Nov-11 19:05:11

I love Alien by Thierry Mugler.

Gilly70 Wed 09-Nov-11 23:11:55

Jolie Madame was my favourite, but can't find it now.

Just remembered the name of the Faberge perfume I loved back in the 70s, it was Flambeau, sadly discontinued now.

janthea Tue 25-Oct-11 16:03:17

riclorian* I had forgotten Arpege! I loved it!

janthea Tue 25-Oct-11 15:57:12

My mother always used Chanel 5 and a favourite aunt always used April Violets by Yardley. I loved it as a child. I still love the smell of violets

My favourite perfume Joy by Jean Patou, but I also love Allure by Chanel and Hiris by Hermes.

I never wear perfume as I cannot bear the after-smell that clings to your clothes. I am sure the scientists could come up with some way of avoiding this.

harrigran Tue 25-Oct-11 00:02:57

I use Escentual.com number especially at Christmas time, of course I can't get my Pomegranate Noir there but just about everything else is available.

That`s another one to look at. Don`t know where our regular site`s gone, used `em for years.

Revis Mon 24-Oct-11 21:59:51

numberplease I've used www.cheapsmells.com in the past and had no problems.

Revis Mon 24-Oct-11 21:56:23

Yes Crimson Kiku was in lovely yellow containers and I felt so grown up wearing it. Now wear Rive Gauche and One by Calvin Klein, which is quite light. Just sent a nearly full bottle of Chanel no.5 to the charity shop as it's far too heavy for me. DH still loves me to wear Worth Je Reviens - says it reminds him of Euston station when he travelled down from Lancashire to stay with me for the weekend in London in the sixties.

Thank you Feldmarshallin, I`ll take a look.

numberplease Strawberrynet stock loads of fragrances it's difficult to get hold of in the UK but they're based in Hong Kong (I think) so prices vary according to the current exchange rate - and are rather high at the moment, unfortunately.

How do others find eBay for perfume? Having had a couple of bad experiences with buying slightly scented coloured water, I'm tending to steer clear. Perhaps I was just unlucky?

Annobel Mon 24-Oct-11 18:23:07

We used to buy Evening in Paris in Woolies for favourite Aunt's Christmas present; she also appreciated 4711. It takes me back 60-odd years.

gracesmum Mon 24-Oct-11 17:58:46

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir is what I usually wear- but my all-time fav is Hermes "Caleche" I took some into hospital when I was having no 1 baby 38 years ago - sadly he only lived 24 days but the scent brings back the happy sensations I had and I associate it with all things nice! (Costs a bomb though so lots of walkthroughs of John Lewis perfume department and quick squirts!!)

Oh, by the way, does anyone know of any good, reasonably priced, online perfume sites? Our favourite one that we`ve used for years, www.supaperfume.com seems to have disappeared off the radar.

When I was at junior school I absolutely loved Evening in Paris, but bought some last year and it just didn`t seem the same. In my teens I became very attached to In Love, by Norman Hartnell. In my 30s I was bought a perfume by Faberge, but can`t remember the name, it was gorgeous. My favourite nowadays is Tocade, by Rochas, but I also love Obsession, by Calvin Klein, and White Diamonds, by Elizabeth Taylor. As for 4711, my grandma bought me some when I was 11, I thought it was wonderful, but my evil stepsister pinched it!

harrigran Mon 26-Sept-11 23:23:18

Ma Griffe and Samsara are available from Amazon.
I used to love Helmut Lang but that was taken off the market.

Grandmama Mon 26-Sept-11 18:32:07

Burgins Perfumery in York sells Ma Griffe. Not sure if they do mail order but you can Google them and get contact details. It's a wonderful perfumery.
