Hello all sending, good wishes.

Well, I'm thinking that it might be time to dig out my Birkenstocks (that Mr P refers to as "those sandals that you bought in Munich" even though that particular pair have been replaced at least twice!)

But my feet are definitely not fit to be exposed to the general public, especially those of a nervous disposition! blush

I have one of those electric foot sander things, but am wondering about putting my feet in the hands of a professional. Not sure if a chiropodist or a farrier would be the best option confused

I usually go barefoot indoors, and that is what I am thinking might be the cause of the really hard skin on my heels and the balls of my feet.

Then of course my toenails will need painting, as there seems to be some evidence of the yellowing associated with fungal nail infection , NOT a good look at all.

Has anyone tried those over the counter treatments, and if so, do they work?

Phoenix The Superdrug socks at £1.99 are very good.

Hello again!

Had a look on Amazon, so many choices for the exfoliating socks, including one that advised doing a "sensibilty" test before using confused I would have probably failed that!

Anyway, if someone could let me know which ones they have tried and would recommend, I would be most grateful!

Go and have a proper pedicure! It's a treat but worth it!

Mine are out too, last week I did as Witzend did,I sat outside in the garden ( nobody watching) and had a relaxing time, painted my toe nails and felt good after, and suddenly we had sun and warmth at last, thank goodness I had my DIY time.

Because I now have trouble bending to cut my toenails I go to a local clinic that does podiatry and other things on a regular basis. It sounds extravagant but also because I am diabetic I get two free diabetic foot checks a year within my treatments (I wasn't getting a check with my surgery).

"Copycats"???? I typed "footcare"!!!

phoenix Thu 16-May-19 18:22:05

Oooh GrannyGravy13, you're for it now!

phoenix Thu 16-May-19 18:20:54

I don't think there are many Chinese copycats specialists here in rural North Devon, Menopauselbitch (charming name, btw)

Mawbroon & BBbevan I am in agreement with you, my OP was (I hope) obviously light hearted and definitely NOT intended to cause offence.......................

To anyone, not even the sensitive, worried about being politically correct members who rather than post their concerns/objections on this thread, felt compelled to contact GNHQ.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 16-May-19 18:15:06

Mawbroon they are called “lesbian” sandals in our family also.

Ugg Boots are known as “Essex Wellies”

I go and see a chiropodist a couple of times a year and only paint during summer months. I had a fungal nail and put vicks vapour rub on offending toe and the ones next to it just in case. It worked the best out of everything I’d tried. A chiropodist recommended it. But you have to put cream on your heels. Nothing worse than seeing unloved feet at this time of year grin

Menopauselbitch Thu 16-May-19 18:07:41

If you think you have a nail infection then surely you should go and see a chiropodist. Otherwise it’s better To go to a Chinese place as salons only do a massage a bit of skin work and paint. The Chinese take every bit of dead skin off it’s brilliant. Remember if your feet are really bad add a bit extra onto the bill as it will take them longer, otherwise they could have lost out.

Hear hear !!!

MawBroonsback Thu 16-May-19 17:20:21

I am amazed at the amount (apparently) of shock, horror and outrage occasioned by the flippant and entirely inoffensive posts from Phoenix, bbevan and myself about Birkenstock sandals, shoes or clogs.
No offence was intended either to any lesbians or the manufacturers of the aforementioned footwear. ???

Not a very practical solution for most people with hard skin but a walk across a wet sandy beach is wonderful for the feet!

Funnygran Thu 16-May-19 17:01:57

In a decorating shop with DH and found a small square block with different grades of sandpaper on each face. 50p so a bargain. DH wanted to know what needed sanding down - my heels of course. It works a treat!

I have used the Scholl fungal nail treatment, which was extremely effective, but the accompanying leaflet says you should consult your GP or podiatrist if: symptoms have persisted for longer than two years; discolouration has covered the whole surface of the nail; symptoms are shown in more than two toes/fingers.
I think you should get a professional to look at the problem as I don't think covering it up with nail varnish will do you any favours.

I hate my feet touched but worked for a while at an Osteopath's who had a chiropodist there 3 days a week & he finally got me to let him 'do' my feet. They looked amazing & I kept it up until I left.
I am now trying to pluck up courage to let them 'do' my feet at the nail bar that does my finger nails.
I'd see a chiropodist if I were you- the first time I had my feet done he found I had a corn & very hard skin around heel.

I love having a pedicure - the height of luxury. I can manage my finger nails, but it's getting harder to reach my feet. The last lot of polish is now growing out, so it's time to make an appointment. Last time, I put on flip flops to allow my polish to dry as I walked back to the car, tripped on a kerb and bruised ribs! So no more flip flops!

I’m afraid I’m behind the times as I still use a pumice stone on my heels. I soak in the bath and then, before I get out, I use the pumice stone with a little soap. Result, no dry skin on heels.
If I shower instead of bath then I soak my feet in warm water for a while and then use the pumice.

For toe-nail fungus or sore, dry skin,I recommend Tiger balm.Apply all over and under the nail and then cover with a cotton sock.Worked for me.

If ANYONE .can recommend an effective treatment for toe nail fungus, I would be SO grateful! Had mine for years and tried everything. Apparently, even expensive laser treatment doesn'zap it.

allassinsane Thu 16-May-19 11:29:32

Yes you can buy the exfoliating socks from the big river company. That's where I got mine from. Haven't used them yet. To diggindoris why not just shave or wax the curlies (on your toes) off. Like your name BTW.

Hm999 Thu 16-May-19 10:55:13

Once a month I go to the nail salon, so relaxing. (I struggle with bending too)

aquafish Thu 16-May-19 10:30:52

Ive recently tried a new nail colour I saw advertised. Its by Nailner from Boots, claims to let toenails breath so healthier than normal polish, and in a lovely rosy red colour. Worth a try!

Diggingdoris Thu 16-May-19 10:26:43

I can cope with hard skin and toenails, but what can I do about the dark curly hairs that have appeared on my toes! I'm sure they were not there last summer. Help anyone?
