White shirt/blouse needed

Who would think it so difficult to find a white shirt?

I play in an ‘ensemble’ and our uniform is black skirt or trousers and a plain white shirt. My old shirt has finally come to the end of its life and looks decidedly scruffy so I need a new one.

I’ve searched everywhere. They are either too thin and reveal too much, or the material is too stiff and doesn’t ‘drape’ well (thus over-enhancing a chest which is sufficiently well enhanced already) or linen. Now some people can were linen and look casually chic, I just look crumpled.

It must have a collar and 3/4 or full length sleeves and be available in a size 14 and preferablly a longer line rather than those silly short shirts that just stop at your bottom therefore emphasising the part your rather have covered.

I’d settle for ivory or off white.

Please - any suggestions.

Have you checked Marks?

Next! I think it's the style you're looking for and nice crisp cotton.

M&S schoolwear. Unless you have a huge bust! The teenage sizes are fine for adults, some of whom have huge busts!

OldMeg Tue 13-Feb-18 13:41:27

Not crisp cotton. These are the ones that don’t ‘drape’ but just stick out, make you look bulky. Yes, have checked out M&S and Next (sent 2 back as see through).

I don’t want a shirt that looks like school uniform either. Although this is our band ‘uniform’ we are looking for something a bit more feminine than that. There are several of us in the same position needing new blouses and finding it almost impossible. I’d be willing to pay above the odds for the right one.

Have you tried JL or Debenhams they have a good selection of different brand names and styles.

I was going to suggest uniqlo too, you beat me suzie
They probably have several different ones so you could order a few and send the ones back that you don’t like. (Or keep them all of course ?)

I did a quick search on eBay for 'white shirt tunic 14'.
There are quite a few new garments with a feminine touch and very reasonable.

I've had nice white shirts from Sainsbury's, though one of them is linen. Have you thought about wearing a man's white shirt? I'm sure they will be more readily available than women's ones and so what if they button the wrong way?

JoyBloggs Tue 13-Feb-18 16:04:25

I was also going to suggest Uniqlo. I have one of theirs in blue, it's great...very 'drapey', quite long. Nice collar, only worry would be if it was dense enough for you in white, might be a bit 'see-through.

There are lots on John Lewis on-line. All types of fabrics, styles and price ranges .

I bought a longer length white blouse/shirt from Tesco last summer. I haven't been in recently, so I don't know what they have in at the moment. It might be worth having a look online.

I recently had the same search, a white blouse was required for a formal event. I found that they were either school shirt style or a frilly style. I’d almost given up, when I wandered into Bonmarche and got alomost exactly what I wanted: a pin tucked front, long sleeves and hip skimming. The material was a bit see through( well it was cheap) so I wore a cami underneath.

OldMeg Tue 13-Feb-18 17:22:54

I will try Uniqlo as so many recommend them.

J52 I don’t want any frills but neither do I want a man’s shirt. I’m not Shania Twain. And I don’t want to wear a cami under it as they invariably make your chest look like a shelf.

But I do appreciate all the suggestions. Thank you ?

Uniqlo also have this pintucked cotton one, they have quite a few shirts/blouses in their website.

My daughter has recently bought this one from Zara

Thanks for all suggestions. I’ve ordered a Bora shirt from John Lewis which ticks most (not all) the boxes, inasmuch as it might show too much bra but we’ll wait and see.

Brora

Have a mooch around the charity shops in your area. You might click lucky and find something suitable.

In case the JL shirt doesn't work out, Dorothy Perkins (online) have several white shirts and a few look to be what you are after. And it's 25% off everything at the moment.

OldMeg Fri 16-Feb-18 11:10:51

My shirt arrived today and I’m really pleased with it.

Lazigirl Fri 16-Feb-18 13:39:28

Saw your blouse and liked it OldMeg and thought I'd like one from JL so had a look and saw the price shock but it is very nice.
