Who is your broadband supplier?

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a consistent broadband supplier? At the moment I am with Orange and pay £12 a month for unlimited downloads should be fine, but unfortunately have found that for my DS who still lives at home, and plays a lot of online games, it is not consistent and frequently throws him out of a game when it stops for no reason. I don't want to pay a fortune but do need reliability. Any suggestions?

We use Plusnet (on recommendation from an acquaintance) and have found them to be excellent.

Reliable, helpful when we need to contact them (which is rarely) and pretty good value.

You could also have a look on a comparison website. I think Uswitch covers ISP's although their main focus is energy providers.

I've just been looking at Plusnet online and it looks very good value. I only spend about £3 a month on landline calls and my BT broadband and calls bill is around £31 a month, so I am thinking of changing to Plusnet now.

If I go for their basic package, which is all I need, it looks like I will pay around £16 a month with free evening and weekend calls.

Has anyone made that switch and found their bills have halved, like Plusnet seems to say mine will?

We have cable, so it's all Virgin here - the lot!

I've had cable and got so fed up with errors and charges they shouldn't have made that I thought I'd give them a break. If they're more reliable these days I may eventually go back.

My phoneline is with BT [free calls] but broadband is AOL. Trying to reduce my monthly bills in an attempt to be able to retire one day so intending to do an Observer price comparison. For some reason I pay for AOL with my credit card, which costs me an extra £3 a month [I only realised this the other day when AOL phoned me]. AOL are supposed to be difficult to leave as they only contact you via Indian call centres, so I'm hoping that, if I do it through a price comparison site they will do all the negotiating for me. I do like the AOL site, though and don't know what happens with my email address; will I have to change it if I leave AOL? Annoyingly AOL phoned the other day when I was out and the S.O. answered the phone and told them to go away. Only found out when I told him if AOL phoned I needed to speak to them. Grrrr.

I'm with BT free calls anytime+broadband , its more expensive than others but its as fast as I need and it never drops out.. I'd rather pay a bit more for the reliability I don't think I have ever had to ring them and thats quite a few years...

We use Phone Coop - it is a smaller operation and if there is a problem you get to talk to a someone in Britain which helps communication - you finish up with a named person who will follow things through for you and it is generally a more personal service.

BT, it drops out the whole time and is driving us mad. We are thinking of changing to Virgin.

I thought my broadband supplier was causing me problems but discovered it was the browser Internet Explorer which was throwing me off programmes and not connecting as its very oversubscribed. I have switched to Maxathon 3 and have no problems connecting and staying connected (we are with BT Internet and have BT Vision and mainline telephone for 342 per month).
