Someone needs to tell the Anna Friel character that bathroom doors have locks.....

GrandmaKT Wed 14-Aug-19 22:02:07

Also, what does she actually do? (Apart from going on all the time about how busy she is and how much she has taken on)!

Charleygirl5 Wed 14-Aug-19 22:06:54

The jury is out here.

sodapop Wed 14-Aug-19 22:07:43

And I missed the end because the TV went off.

BlueBelle Wed 14-Aug-19 22:14:58

I. Missed the end cos I nodded off must watch the last quarter again

merlotgran Wed 14-Aug-19 22:24:29

DH disappeared behind his fishing magazine after asking why nobody was wearing a life jacket in the opening scenes?

The girl who had just started her periods looked about 25. grin

tanith Wed 14-Aug-19 22:28:33

I turned over after 15 mins, I wasn’t in the mood for all those complicated relationships. I shan’t bother with it again.

Maggiemaybe Wed 14-Aug-19 23:02:52

The girl who had just started her periods looked about 25.

We said the same, merlot. The actor's name in the cast list is Nell Williams. If she's the Nell Williams who's Helen Baxendale's daughter, she's coming up to 20. I've just read that Baxendale's children are called Nell Marmalade, Eric Mustard, and Vincent Mash. shock

I don't think I'll be sticking with this one. One cliche after another. Busy busy mothers in rowdy kitchens, drivers who can't keep their eyes on the road, women dropping their tacky thongs knickers for the first stranger who looks their way, etc. But the last few minutes will probably drag us in for another episode.

cornergran Wed 14-Aug-19 23:11:40

As charley said, the jury’s out here. Will watch the next episode then decide.

travelsafar Thu 15-Aug-19 06:41:43

I didn't even bother once i had read the reviews in my tv mag, Can't stand Anna Friel after watching her in a couple of other series and like Maggiemaybe says i guessed it would be cliched.

Willow500 Thu 15-Aug-19 07:03:22

I fell asleep in the last few minutes so don't know what happened. Not sure I'll be bothering to watch the rest of it either - too many silly plots.

Calendargirl Thu 15-Aug-19 07:07:12

I also decided not to bother watching first episode, thought I would watch later if it got decent reviews. Don’t think I’ll bother after reading what you all said. Anna Friel I find irritating, always seems so intense in everything. Marcella was a load of rubbish.
I watched an old Poirot instead last night.

LullyDully Thu 15-Aug-19 07:55:47

Why didn't a posh house like that not have a downstairs loo?

Should you rush into someone's house , rush upstairs and use their towel to dry yourself?

Why didn't she lock the door?

Why didn't the girl phone her mum when she wasn't picked up?

Why does everyone on TV have sex on top of a cupboard?

Will Anna Freil remember to brush her hair?

Does the plastic surgeon know she has he her eyes done already?

All valid questions I have, sorry.

Harris27 Thu 15-Aug-19 08:13:00

Haven't watched this yet but will dip into it now.

loopyloo Thu 15-Aug-19 08:13:52

It's amazing how often an old Poirot or Midsommer is the best thing to watch on tv. We started watching the history of Scotland but it was too gory.

Mary59nana Thu 15-Aug-19 08:41:13

I really enjoyed this drama and was so pleased to know that the full 6 episodes are on the ITV hub
Brilliant binge viewing

suziewoozie Thu 15-Aug-19 08:49:50

why does everyone on TV gave sex on top of a cupboard?
😂😂😂😂😂 LullyDully

suziewoozie Thu 15-Aug-19 08:50:05

Have have have

Teetime Thu 15-Aug-19 09:02:26

I watched it to see views of the Lake District and yes its always raining - well kit is when I go there but it wont stop me going. I dont care for Anna Friels acting in anything and I agree one cliché after another. Why do all TV mums have a messy kitchen- I never had a messy kitchen or unmade beds no matter how much work I had on including shifts, weekends and on-call plus studying at the same time. I just got on and did them! Phew!

Coolgran65 Thu 15-Aug-19 09:08:13

I loved it. I like Anna F and loved her lived in kitchen. Although maybe just a bit tidier.

GrandmaKT Thu 15-Aug-19 09:21:53

Ha ha Lullydully all good questions!
Teetime I always think TV mums' kitchens aren't messy enough when compared to mine at that time!

tiredoldwoman Thu 15-Aug-19 10:57:13

Well , I liked it and Anna F's aga ! Planning a box set sit in very soon .

MiniMoon Thu 15-Aug-19 11:06:47

I just couldn't get away with it. I read my book instead. DH watched it, but I don't t know wether he'll bother with any more.

grannyticktock Thu 15-Aug-19 23:11:17

I agree with many of the comments above. I often wonder how the woman in a steamy and impromptu sexual encounter manages to have sex without actually removing her knickers; this time I thought they were trying to add a touch of realism to an otherwise unconvincing scene by letting us see her remove her thong, but then she spoiled it all by forgetting to put it back on again.

If a tall dark stranger ever persuades me to have a quickie in a bathroom (vanishingly unlikely, but then so was much of what we witnessed) I will try to remember the following sequence:
1. Remove knickers
2. Have sex
3. Replace knickers.
Oh, and before 1) I could add "Shut the door"

I think I will watch some more of this, it's going to be fun discussing it!

Lessismore Fri 16-Aug-19 13:59:55

Sorry, sad shallow person that I am, I'm enjoying it.

Charleygirl5 Fri 16-Aug-19 15:00:38

grannyticktock not that I would ever have been in that situation but protection would have been top of the list.

Justme67 Fri 16-Aug-19 16:02:50

I am going to stick with it, see where it goes, there is more than one story line here I think.

SisterAct Fri 16-Aug-19 18:11:47

Watched on catch-up and with you Justme67

moggie57 Fri 16-Aug-19 18:18:35

who is anna friel?

Atqui Fri 16-Aug-19 18:28:37

Why didn’t the girl who went shopping with her mother remember she had her best friend coming for a sleepover?

seacliff Fri 16-Aug-19 18:43:42

I suspended belief and really enjoyed it, in fact the next day I binge watched the rest of the series. A lazy and enjoyable day.

Recently I enjoyed all the Poliakoff films, thanks to Gransnet, but this time I was in the mood for the TV equivalent of chick lit. I did think the bathroom scene was a bit unlikely. I actually enjoyed it much more than Keeping Faith, which I gave up on.

I did wonder if they wanted to film in pouring rain all the time, or were they just unlucky. I know they often fake bad weather. Beautiful scenery, makes me want to go back.

BlueBelle Fri 16-Aug-19 19:34:14

Well watched again without falling asleep and loved it I think Anna Friel is great however I m with you Atqui how come the daughter didn’t bring the girl home with her for the sleepover that bit seemed strange

AnnS1 Fri 16-Aug-19 19:42:36

I watched it all, complete series is on STV player. Lots of “holes” in it but wanted to see how it ended. There is also a book available.

Sar53 Fri 16-Aug-19 20:09:30

I've watched 4 episodes so far and yes I am enjoying it. It's not the best thing I've seen but no better or worse than lots of other things.
There really isn't very much worth watching at the moment .

grannyticktock Fri 16-Aug-19 20:24:03

The sleepover thing was all a bit weird.

First, would a "busy" mother mark her daugher's first period by telling her to take an unauthorised day off school, and then take her shopping? I know the event was long overdue, the girl appearing to be about 18, but even so ...

Youngsters are in constant touch by text etc, so why wouldn't the other girl have got in touch with her friend or her mother when she wasn't picked up?

annep1 Fri 16-Aug-19 20:24:05

How do these people always manage to do their... er business and not need to freshen up after?

annep1 Fri 16-Aug-19 20:24:55

By the way I found it boring and incredible and was very disappointed.

Lessismore Fri 16-Aug-19 20:51:02

Do they only have one jumper shop there?

Sparklefizz Sat 17-Aug-19 08:09:27

Like Seacliff I was relaxed about it, binge-watched and enjoyed the whole thing. It's true, there were holes in the plot, but so what?

Sparklefizz Sat 17-Aug-19 08:10:43

Annepl How do these people always manage to do their... er business and not need to freshen up after?

There's never any foreplay or use of condoms either! Just sayin'

Sparklefizz Sat 17-Aug-19 08:14:35

I often wonder how the woman in a steamy and impromptu sexual encounter manages to have sex without actually removing her knickers

I remember an episode of Neighbours about 30 years ago when the character Daphne gave birth while still wearing her tights! It caused great mockery and hilarity.

loopyloo Sat 17-Aug-19 08:50:20

Sounds dreadful! Must watch it......

Justme67 Sat 17-Aug-19 09:44:17

Let us not forget this is FICTION

Grandma2213 Sun 18-Aug-19 02:37:27

I was looking forward to this but was disappointed. The bathroom bonk was very silly! OK so she dropped the thong but wouldn't they both have come down very sweaty (I do have some vague memories, though it has been a very long time!!) There may well have been some 'Monica Lewinsky type stains' on that lovely dress too. The going back for her knickers scenes were also very contrived.

Now the other lady who might need to make some money to support her family I can understand, though fortunately have never been in that position myself.

I'll keep watching. There might be something more interesting about to develop, otherwise the scenery is worth watching!

BlueBelle Sun 18-Aug-19 04:22:42

Got into it, watched the whole lot on iPad and thoroughly enjoyed it I think the tangle of the three woman’s stories was well done and yes there were some bits that you had to wonder about but it is fiction so the author does have the right to some poetic licence
Depends if you are able to see it as a story or wether you need it to be a factual piece of viewing I guess
But a thumbs up from me apart from the bathroom scene 👍🏼

Jane43 Mon 19-Aug-19 02:45:11

I thought most of this was contrived nonsense except for the storyline of the compulsive gambler, his physiotherapist wife and their daughter, I enjoyed this part very much. It seemed like two stories in one to me and then I read that it was based on two books.

Atqui Tue 20-Aug-19 21:16:36

We’ve watched five episodes , but can’t download another one, AnnS1 - how many episodes were there. Up to now each subsequent episode downloaded but not episode 6 .,It’s v frustrating!

Atqui Tue 20-Aug-19 21:22:47

By the way I always wonder about the lack of a post coital freshen up - particularly as she didn’t put back any knickers -eugh - as th young ones say !!

Atqui Tue 20-Aug-19 21:24:07

and yes it’s ‘ contrived nonsense’ but entertaining!

Minniemoo Tue 20-Aug-19 21:25:14

Six episodes, Atqui. How frustrating for you!

I found it to be quite watchable and I rather like Anna Friel.

Some of the comments on this thread have made me laugh. The girl did indeed look years older than she was supposed to be!

Sara65 Tue 20-Aug-19 21:50:41

We’ve only watched the one episode so far, and I’m still a little unclear about who belongs to who.

Anna Friel played a frantic, intense character as usual, she seemed to be racing around doing very little, if she can find time between racing backwards and forwards in her car with various children, and having sex on worktops with strangers, she could give her kitchen a good tidy up.

As previously mentioned, several things seem ridiculous, if I was going to have sex in the bathroom, I’d definitely lock the door, I too am a bit bothered about the no knickers, and presumably no clean up, I hope she didn’t leave a stain on the chair!

Finally, only a total slut would then go to bed with her husband without having a shower! Yuck!

I dare say I’ll be watching tomorrow though!8

Atqui Thu 22-Aug-19 12:20:32

After much searching , unplugging and re plugging I finally found episode 6. I really enjoyed this series, and was pleased that the final episode tied up ends while leaving opportunity for another series. A good bit of escapism in my obviously dull life!!

sodapop Thu 22-Aug-19 15:22:38

Not at all Atqui I watch all sorts of dramas that others are critical of, can't beat a good bit of escapism.

Parsley3 Thu 22-Aug-19 17:41:55

I started watching this as I was intrigued after reading the posts about the thong, the bathroom door and the messy kitchen. I have watched two episodes and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I will stick with it although I find drippy Anna Friel annoying in every part I have seen her play.

Sara65 Thu 22-Aug-19 17:55:56

I agree Parsley, she’s a very annoying actress, but I’ve only watched one episode, and I’ll try the next one, but I think the whole programme may annoy me

Willow500 Fri 23-Aug-19 06:49:31

Managed to stay awake during the second episode and have got into it. I've always liked Anna Friel since her Brookside days. Husband was shocked out of his slumber by my gasp at the nudity scene so consequently watched the rest of it too grin

Justme67 Fri 23-Aug-19 18:49:41

I am intrigue by all that is happening, and just wonder how it is all going to come together at the end. The trouble is these days I am inclined to get the men mixed up, they all look the same!
