A reminder that the new series War Of The Worlds is starting on Sunday evening. It has to be better than the awful Tom Cruise film version.?

I loved War Of The Worlds with Tom Cruise- Especially the first 30 minutes!

I love War of the Worlds I have the Jeff Wayne’s musical version CD set narrated by Richard Burton and play it regularly. I have hope for this new series.

I will be ready and waiting Lemongrove.

I enjoyed reading The Time Machine too, but I doubt that will be made into a TV drama.

I’m listening to The 39 Steps on the radio at present, I definitely like the old adventure classics.

I'm so excited about this. A lot of it was filmed in the woods where we walk our dog! They made an horrendous mess of the place but wonderful nature has restored it

Willow500 Sun 17-Nov-19 07:19:13

We'll probably give it a go - I'd forgotten it was on. Many years ago we were in our (then) local record shop and heard the music - we bought the record which had just come out without listening to any more and it was played over and over again - we still have it. I did buy the updated version a few years ago but it isn't the same at all!

We both love SiFi so are looking forward to this.

I have the live musical stage show version DVD, convincingly narrated post-humously by Richard Burton, which is amazing ...much better than I had expected and a regular favourite of mine now...Justin Hayward and Russell Watson star in the very small cast - think it was made in 2006.

I can't wait.

I am looking forward to watching this,i didn't know there was a Tom Cruise one, but i remember the original black and white one

Like Willow500 I, too, was in a record shop and they had this on. I only heard one track but immediately bought the LP. It was just wonderful and the voice of Richard Burton made it so much more special. Justin Heywood singing Forever Autumn still melts me. I wonder what the upcoming series will be like.

Hetty58 Sun 17-Nov-19 10:56:57

Goody, can't wait to watch it as I just loved the book!

MiniMoon Sun 17-Nov-19 11:06:36

I read all H.G.Wells books when I was a teenager, and really enjoyed War of the Worlds.
The Tom Cruise film was just about okay. When you've read the book, you have imagined the characters and settings, so I was a little disappointed in it.
I'm glad it doesn't clash with His Dark Materials.

NanKate I love 39 steps we first read it at school I have read it loads of times since and never get bored with it.

NannyJan53 Sun 17-Nov-19 11:12:16

Looking forward to this. We saw the Stage Version in 2012 in Birmingham. Forever Autumn is my all time favourite song.

polnan Sun 17-Nov-19 11:35:07

yes, I love the original 39 steps, though I think I have watched every one turned out

I shall record this one.

Another vote for The 39 Steps. The book and the Kenneth More film. Not read any HG Wells for a very long time. Is War of The Worlds the one read on radio years ago and caused absolute panic as listeners thought it was real?

Mollyplop Sun 17-Nov-19 12:07:25

Me too tanith. I never get bored of it.

tanith Sun 17-Nov-19 12:36:49

Alima yes that’s the one. ?

Aepgirl Sun 17-Nov-19 12:42:22

Yes, the timer is set, and I will be watching it with a glass of something nice.

Jane43 Sun 17-Nov-19 13:06:37

I’m looking forward to this.. Robert Carlyle is one of our favourite actors and we have played the album a lot over the years. Sorry I didn’t like the Tom Cruise film at all.

grandtanteJE65 Sun 17-Nov-19 14:24:32

Anyone else remember the scare when it was broadcast on the radio originally and some people thought it was really happening?

travelsafar Sun 17-Nov-19 14:33:54

Rather looking forward to this but of course The Crown is on at the same time!!! thank goodness for catch up and netflix.

sandye Sun 17-Nov-19 14:35:16
