Its no use I simply don't see the attractiveness of Aiden Turner as Ross Poldark. He just looks grumpy and a bit smelly most of the time. I like George Warleggan but only because he was such a splendid Freddy Threepwood in the Blandings series.

Couldn't disagree moregrin

He's certainly put in the hours at the gym. Needs to watch his diet though. Getting chubby round the chops.

Was this a drama, or some sort of competition to see how many clichés (of many types) could be put in to one episode?

I loved it!!

Jane10 Sun 04-Sep-16 22:10:08

I even find the muscles thing offputting. Those silly vain men at gyms always seem daft to me. If he was physically fit due to real hard proper work maybe but am just not impressed by Aiden T.

I still love it but I'll be glad when the trial's over and things liven up again.

I must admit I preferred him in Being Human - not so gym-toned and with his lovely natural Irish accent.

Actually felt sorry for Francis tonight. Didn't like him at all in the last series!

I just enjoy it, I like the scenery, the costumes and the story. Its just watchable in a rubbishy kind of way wink

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 04-Sep-16 22:32:34

OMG merlot! Another trial! shock grin

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 04-Sep-16 22:33:05

John Nettles can't do a Cornish accent.

Ana Sun 04-Sep-16 22:34:42

He did stand out like a sore thumb a bit, didn't he? grin

merlotgran Sun 04-Sep-16 22:38:14

That's what I thought, jingl Next Sunday will be a nightmare with two verdicts to worry about grin

LullyDully Mon 05-Sep-16 08:05:34

I found myself a bit switched off, will need to get into it again. Surely he can not possibly hang unless it takes 6 episodes to do so. Had forgotten Fransis did that!

Pittcity Mon 05-Sep-16 08:19:42

I think it is the caricatures that make it!
I do agree that Ross would be smelly after all that mining..phwoar! Maybe a few gratuitous shots of him washing at a water pump?

grannylyn65 Mon 05-Sep-16 08:22:21

gringrin

grannylyn65 Mon 05-Sep-16 08:22:49

???

Greyduster Mon 05-Sep-16 09:08:44

I watched it last night, but this image of him as a dwarf in The Hobbitt kept popping up and spoiling the moment for me. I was sorry to see Francis shoot himself, but was there some reason why he had to go all the way to Bodmin to do it?

tanith Mon 05-Sep-16 09:26:39

Ah! but did he actually do the deed?

Greyduster Mon 05-Sep-16 10:20:52

Well, I know he's a bit all round useless but even I couldn't miss from that range grin!

Beammeupscottie Mon 05-Sep-16 11:01:22

Thank you for the spoiler, Greyduster! haven't watched it yet! Might not bother now.
IMO The BBc would do better to ditch Poldark and just run clips of Aiden Turner in various stages of undress. It all people really want.

LullyDully Mon 05-Sep-16 11:25:34

Yes I didn't put in a spoiler about Francis on purpose. I think the trick is not to read a thread about a programme you haven watched yet, otherwise you may be disappointed by a revelation.

Jane10 Mon 05-Sep-16 11:29:08

Not me Beammeup! I like a bit of a story and characters I care about.

Beammeupscottie Mon 05-Sep-16 11:51:12

The characters are strong, I give you that. But isn't Demelza a bit too modern-looking? You might like a look at the old version with Robin Somebody. You can buy it on the BBC Store site. They were offering a lot of old drama at half-price, so have a look. I bought "Wives and Daughters" - really good. They have a lot of good stuff. It's my standby. You can watch it on your computer or plug it into the telly. Very easy when you have done it a few times!

Robin Ellis the original Poldark was in last night's episode I noticed. He was the irritable judge.
