Liar. New series.

I really enjoyed the first series but seeing as it was two years ago I'm finding it hard to piece it all together given there are so many necessary but confusing flashbacks.

A few of the characters look alike as well which makes it worse.

Hopefully it will become clearer next week.

Hooray merlotgran I don’t f eel so silly now
I liked the last series but when I saw it last night apart from the main bits (her being abused by him) I couldn’t remember anything that had previously taken place
Hopefully it will get clearer

Very confusing.

I agree it was all so confusing, especially when Andrew kept appearing. Was this something we'd already seen or something new which being added to the mix? It was a complete mish mash. And I'm still trying to work out the new detective's comment 'my husband has had a baby' as she strides around in black leather bossing everyone around.

It's not just the plot I found confusing. I started getting my detective dramas muddled as well. Macdonald and Dodds (Sunday nights) also has a woman detective, who looks similar to the one in Liar, striding around and bossing everyone about. She also has an identical aggressive interviewing technique.

confused

It's her work partner that's had the baby, well his wife has.

When I knew Liar Series 2 was coming on, I binge-watched Series 1 to remind myself of the details, but I still found all the flashbacks confusing in the latest episode. I hate it when they do that.

Chestnut Wed 04-Mar-20 15:20:02

I don't like flashbacks at all because I don't want to keep jumping back and forth. It's annoying and confusing, and the more time zones involved the more confusing. Just tell me the story as it happens!

Good idea sparkle fizz I think that’s the answer binge watch. As I watch so many dramas I’m getting confused lol

seacliff Wed 04-Mar-20 15:52:11

I started watching but gave up, as I just didn't know what was going on and wasn't enjoying it.

I have copied Sparklefizz and have now downloaded the first series. I am not sure if I ever saw it the first time. Nice scenery though.

Chestnut Wed 04-Mar-20 23:14:51

seacliff if you didn't see the first series then you wouldn't stand a chance! The rest of us are struggling. I think we're lucky these days to be able to go back and watch a series from the beginning, although I'm afraid I don't like this one enough to go back and watch it all again.

Calendargirl Thu 05-Mar-20 06:54:37

It is difficult sometimes to remember what happened a couple of years ago in a previous series. I wouldn’t go back and binge watch though, as even if I enjoyed it the first time, I don’t really want to re-watch them yet again. A bit like certain books or films. Some you just don’t want to re-visit.

It’s so encouraging to hear others have problems I always think Oh my word my brain really is going I m getting so muddled and then I read a thread like this and know it’s not me, my work colleague, younger than me is utterly confused too, as are my friends
It’s not just us ?

Pittcity Thu 05-Mar-20 08:46:44

Why did they have to introduce new suspects? I had my theories at the end of the first series blown out of the water by the new victims and their families.
Really need to concentrate because of all the jumping about in time.

seacliff Thu 05-Mar-20 20:50:32

I have just caught up with series 1, and now remember I had seen it before. I really enjoyed it, but at times got so frustrated. I wonder if more than one person was involved. The police womans' partner, Jill Halfpenny, possibly.

hollysteers Fri 06-Mar-20 01:12:21

I didn’t watch series 1 at the time, but caught up recently and then straight into series 2, which helped. Bit far fetched and complicated, but like it overall. Gruffud is very easy on the eye even as a degenerate...
The new detective is completely annoying, ugh.
Oh and thanks for the recommendation for this series after I enjoyed Flesh and Blood and asked for similar.

Jane43 Sun 08-Mar-20 15:23:55

I found it hard to engage with this. The fashion for constant hopping back and forth in time can make some dramas difficult to follow but I will stick with it because I did enjoy the first series.

Calendargirl Tue 10-Mar-20 07:49:21

Found last night’s episode involved even more hopping about, constantly going back three weeks. Surely the detective inspector wouldn’t act like she does, escorting Laura out to meet a pack of reporters.
Thought Andrew was going to knife his friend in the back, literally, after all he’s done for him. Who is this friend anyway? Lost track of where he fits in the story.

BlueBelle Tue 10-Mar-20 07:54:56

Haha thanks so much calandergirl I had no idea where that friend came from and thought I must have missed a bit
It is hard with all the jumping around I m not even sure I ve got the order of events right in my mind now

travelsafar Tue 10-Mar-20 07:59:10

Calendargirl me too I can't place his friend either, guess I will have to rewatch the previous series. Hate the way the female detective is being portrayed, no need for it, doesn't do us women many favours, its bad enough when a male actor has to be that way. I also dislike the breathy way Laura speaks, i guess it is her natural voice as she was the same in Downton Abbey and the series where she played the victorian murdereress, plus she always looks so miserable.

mumofmadboys Tue 10-Mar-20 08:42:31

I binge watched the first series at the weekend and have now seen the first 2 parts of series 2. I dont understand why they leave a 2 year gap between series 1 and 2. Most people will forget the details which are all important.

Sparklefizz Tue 10-Mar-20 08:48:24

I don't know where the friend has come from either, and I have only recently binge watched Series 1, so have I lost the plot? I am not enjoying Series 2 because of all the jumping around. I wonder if this series has different writers?

Pittcity Wed 11-Mar-20 09:18:27

The friend, Oliver, has a past with Earlham that we've yet to find out. "I've helped you in the past, haven't I?"

travelsafar Tue 24-Mar-20 09:31:16

mmmh starting to think maybe Laura not such a victim as she appears after last nights episode.

BlueBelle Tue 24-Mar-20 09:35:34

So NOW we know where the friend has come from after last nights episode ahhh I m getting it bit by bit but it’s so easy to get muddled and forget which bit is present and which bit is past
