Age appropriate films. Who decides?

I recently watched a Netflix series, age rated 15. Goodness... I'd have rated it 21 if I could. I'd never want a 15-year old to watch it. Language was totally obscene - normal these days I realise. But the content was pretty much a porn film. Surely nobody in their right mind could have rated it 15. No wonder young minds are confused. I'd hate my GC to watch it whatever age they were. No point in saying youngsters are different these days. They aren't... it's just they are exposed to so much more.

I was quite shocked when I went to see Casino Royale. As far as I can remember it was a 12 but there was some very graphic violence that I thought was totally unsuitable for that age group.

It is called White Lines. Drug-taking and an orgy - is this suitable for 15 year-olds?

I don't know why so many people like Netflix. In my view, most of what is on it is what I would call "trash TV".

I'm beginning to agree with you, Eloethan.

I’m not sure why you watched the whole series if you were so shocked by it. I quite enjoyed it. Whether we like it or not, most 15 year olds will have seen worse than this. What would you think a 15 year old would be watching? I think most watch stuff on YouTube and Tik Tok rather than TV. My 15 year old GD wouldn’t sit down to watch something like this, not because of the sex or drugs but because she’d rather watch other things.

White lines was rather tongue in cheek, along the lines of Breaking Bad but I agree, not suitable viewing for 15 year olds.
I recommend you try the series Chesapeake Shores. Suitable for all ages.

Chesapeake Shores, Borgen and the White Queen

All very good.

I did look at White Lines when it first came on Netflix but after about 20 minutes I decided it was of no interest to me. I agree there is a lot of ‘trash’ on Netflix but there is a great deal of material that is excellent, it’s just a matter of finding it and following up recommendations from others.

I didn't watch the whole series - only the first couple of episodes. Thanks, Oopsadaisy4 I will look at your recommendations.
