starts tonight (Wednesday 13th Oct) on Sky Arts @ 8pm. Anyone else looking forward it?

Aveline Wed 13-Oct-21 12:53:59

Ooh goody! I always enjoy this.

Luckygirl Wed 13-Oct-21 14:43:01

Can't wait! - bit can't see it tonight as otherwise engaged - for anyone else in that situation, it is on during the day tomorrow.

MayBee70 Wed 13-Oct-21 14:56:58

Thanks for that. Was watching the photography one late last night and saw the preview of the portrait one but forgot about it when I fell asleep! Do you think Sky Arts will, at some point, start charging us to watch?

PollyTickle Wed 13-Oct-21 16:04:05

Thank you for the heads up. I love it.
I have tried portraits of my husband, they always end up looking like Boy George which would be great if husband didn’t look more like Charlie Drake, only taller.
‘heads up’ that was good wasn’t it, shame it wasn’t intentional.

The repeat tomorrow is at 7pm.

Thank you for reminding me. I love this programme and am recording it. Was it last year that the winner did wonderful portraits using what seemed to be coloured pencils?

BBbevan Wed 13-Oct-21 17:22:38

Oh yes love it

vegansrock Wed 13-Oct-21 17:23:00

I have to confess to a vested interested as a v close relative of mine is in it this year ( not tonight’s episode) . V proud mum here.

BBbevan Wed 13-Oct-21 17:48:03

vegansrock. How marvellous xxxxx

Zennomore Wed 13-Oct-21 17:51:27

@vegansrock How exciting I hope they do well ?

Treebee Wed 13-Oct-21 19:26:48

Yes I’ll be watching. As someone who can’t draw for toffee I’m in awe of what the contestants produce, and how different they are.

CanadianGran Wed 13-Oct-21 19:36:18

I'll see it next year when it is broadcast here! I just finished watching The Great British Baking Show 2020. Loved it.

You get such nice quality TV shows, some of which are broadcast here on a later season. I have to avoid media on the shows in case the winner is revealed for me.

I will watch for this one.
Vegansrock, how exciting for you. Good luck!

Would you tattoo your eyeballs???

MayBee70 Thu 14-Oct-21 01:56:26

I couldn’t believe that she’d done that. I thought at first that she’d had a tattoo on her eyelid! As usual, I didn’t like the winning portrait. On the subject of Sky Arts there was an amazing ballet on in the early hours yesterday. Casanova.

I missed Landscape Artist of the Year the other day. Then set the alarm to watch the repeat at 5am but fell asleep half way through. Does anyone know which one won? I don’t think it’s going to be repeated again. At least I know which night the portrait one is on. I do worry that Sky Arts will, at some point, no longer be free now that I’m hooked on it (and watch it as much as BBC4 these days).

I watched the first one this week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I particularly appreciated that the artists were using different mediums. I've fourth week in to an art course, I'm a completely talent less beginner but so far we've used charcoal and chalk, soft pastels and this week we used pen and ink and it is such fun. We all manage to turn out something passable, can't wait to have a go at a portrait, this has whetted my appetite!

BBbevan Wed 20-Oct-21 20:38:26

I always watch it, but being fine art trained I can’t understand why they use photographs. The model is there for a reason.

CanadianGran Wed 20-Oct-21 22:37:47

I wonder about that as well BBbevn. Live model should be their reference.

MayBee70 Wed 20-Oct-21 22:47:23

I suppose it’s different when the artists only have 4 hours to do the portrait.

BBbevan Thu 21-Oct-21 17:57:06

MayBee It isn’t really. They just spend 4 hours looking at a screen rather than the model.
