I scrolled thru the other thread about what movie you first saw at the cinema and noticed there was a lot of Bambi so felt i couldn't spoil the memories so wanted to ask which Adult first movie you saw and how you felt...
My first adult movie was Soldier Blue with Candice Bergen and Peter Strauss...thought it was horrendous with the violent images but I've never forgotten this...and thought how could they make such a bloody film...I remember I wasn't 18 at the time but you didn't have to prove your age...think my friend and I went to the toilets a couple of times but the memory of some of the scenes has never left me...

Adult Movie, made me laugh and wonder.

And yes, Soldier Blue was, quite a bit ;).

Well underage, but I saw Ice Cold in Alex as my first adult movie. No idea why it was an 18.

Fleurpepper oops yes i meant over 18s rated at the Cinema -70s -which was then what I knew was an Adult movie...obviously now it means something elsegrin

Limelight. I was 6 then. Our baby sitter often took me to the cinema. I think she started my love of films.

I know, just made me giggle.

I was always a bit jealous of Candice Bergen, as OH really fancied her smile.

An Affair to Remember and my parents and I sat and sobbed.

I think it was Probably Victim. Very dark.

I saw Ben Hur when I was 14. Absolutely loved it and still do.

NotSpaghetti Sun 29-Jan-23 20:26:32

Probably Straw Dogs.
Might have been Clockwork Orange.

Deliverance. First date when I was 14. I hated it, I don’t like thinking about it even now.

Don’t look now…an 18….I was 17 but one of our teachers took us…no one questioned a nun!! The first grown up film I saw at the cinema was Dr Zhivago….I was 8 and totally transfixed.

NotSpaghetti Sun 29-Jan-23 20:34:58

X rating I think, had just come in in 1970 or 71?
Clockwork Orange was an X (18+).
Don't know if Straw Dogs was.

Rosemary's Baby. Went to see it with my mother. I was 14.

Klute. I went with my first boyfriend. I know Jane Fonda was in it but don't remember much about it.

I think that it was Zulu .
I didn't enjoy it - too blood thirsty .
Since then , I've watched films , which are more graphic .

As far as I can recall I think the first Adult film I saw was Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, starring Albert Finney, Shirley Anne Field and Rachel Roberts. 1960.

That's funny. I was 15, first ever date, and boyfriend 17 asked me to watch this film Deliverance. I got cold feet at the last minute about the film, and asked my mum to phone him to say I was ill. He never asked again! What did I expect, Mary Poppins?

The Exorcist and I shut my eyes a few times.

FannyCornforth Mon 30-Jan-23 09:07:10

The Exorcist at Cradley Heath Fleapit. Aged 14. 🙀
I’m a massive, massive wuss when it comes to horror films even now.
I was scared absolutely bluddy witless.
Thanks Amy Benson!

Ooh Tilly! Fancy that!
How old were you?
(You aren’t Amy Benson by any chance?)

WOW so many truly disturbing and violent films!

My older brother took me to see Elephant Walk in the school holidays when I was about nine. He lied about his age to get in as it was a Cert A.

I was scared stiff when the elephants stampeded at the end and made my mother check under the bed before I could go to sleep. Quite how an elephant could get under my bed was never discussed but my brother got a thick ear! 😂

I suppose Fanny the question was about 18/X rated films - or preceding the ratings, of that sort.

I think that's why we have listed so many of those sort of films. Most of us watched other (non-X rated) films too.

I accidently saw She when I was about 6 years old. Somehow I got into the cinema, sat quietly in a corner so that no one would notice me and have never recovered from the horror. Even now I find it a difficult film to watch. It was an A rated film.

The first official 18 film I went to see was MASH. I was 16 at the time and got into terrible trouble from my parents. The first Adult film I saw was Emmanuelle. We left half way through because it was so boring (although the gentlemen in raincoats seemed to be enjoying it lol).
