I know I can’t answer most of the questions anyway and I’m sure it’s better for the competing teams but the new quizmaster asks the questions so fast that my brain ( which autocorrect changed to Brian but thankfully I noticed it) can’t take it all in. Is it just me? I could put subtitles on but I think the answer would then pop up too quickly as well.

I thought it was a lot easier tonight as I got quite a few answers where I usually only get one or two.
I think the speed is part of the fun.

Good night here.We actually managed quite a few !I think Amol is doing an excellent job.He is quick but some of the questions are long and I guess he has to keep things moving along.

CoolCoco Mon 18-Sep-23 21:26:12

I’m liking Amol Rajan, but am a bit mesmerised by the blingy watch and rings.

Chardy Mon 18-Sep-23 21:35:58

MayBee70 have you tried watching it with the subtitles on (and maybe your thumb on the pause button)?

MayBee70 Mon 18-Sep-23 21:59:37

I’ll put the subtitles on next week. I think I just miss Paxman sad

Grammaretto Mon 18-Sep-23 22:17:37

Amal is better than I thought he'd be but far too fast. I think it would be more fun if it were slower. But I'm probably just old.
I answered a few starter questions - very few! I liked the way Sheffield worked as a team.

Not a fan of Amol when he was on the -Today programme on radio 4, he really gabbles and when He’s not gabbling he mumbles. No subtitles on the radio, mores the pity. sad

Yes, I can't follow what he says. I think he's trying to break the record for the most number of questions asked in a UC programme.
He's always gambled though, that's why I didn't think he was a good show for quizmaster.

I miss Bamber Gascoigne 😁

I also miss Bamber Gascoigne .
I used to be fascinated by his name .
I find that Amol - (nice as he is) speaks too quickly and mumbles .

JackyB Tue 19-Sep-23 09:07:21

Amol does not fire out the questions as fast as Bamber Gascoigne used to. You can see the old programmes on YouTube. The scores back then were much higher, be ause more questions were asked in the time given. But. I agree, I think Rajan doesn't have such good diction as Gascoigne and mumbles and garbles the questions. Otherwise I think he is nice to the contestants. (Would be interested to hear from some of them how they got on with him)

I haven't seen last night's programme yet, but I am finding the questions easier this series. I keep meaning to keep my score. I answered a couple last week that the contestants couldn't answer or got wrong, so am pleased with myself for that!

nanna8 Tue 19-Sep-23 09:26:26

He is so much better than his predecessor, at least you can understand what he is saying and he doesn’t talk down to the competitors. Bamber Gascoigne was also better in his day, probably the best of the lot.

Witzend Tue 19-Sep-23 09:33:17

I miss Jeremy Paxman! It’s just not the same without him.

ixion Tue 19-Sep-23 09:53:05

I find he mutters and gabbles. You spend so long concentrating on what he is actually saying, you don't have time to formulate the responses.

Ilovecheese Tue 19-Sep-23 09:56:30

We have subtitles because of Mr Cheese hearing. The answers do show up too quickly. But at least now the music questions don't have the answer in the subtitles as soon as the music starts, which they did at first.

BigBertha1 Tue 19-Sep-23 10:39:56

I'm not enjoying the new quizmaster either. I wish he would sit up and enunciate more clearly. I miss Jeremey's sarcasm/wit.

Callistemon21 Tue 19-Sep-23 10:41:49

We didn't watch last night, I managed Only Connect (I'm getting better or the questions are easier!)

Yes I miss him too.
When the voiceover guy at the titles says 'Asking the questions...' I always want to shout 'Bamber Gascoigne'. He always seemed such a nice man. Amol Rajan seems to be so supportive of the contestants - kind man. Paxman - not so much.

Arlme Tue 19-Sep-23 14:29:16

I like Amol, he gets more questions in and he does not patronise the competitors like Jeremy did. I also like the end when he asks if they have had a good time. I use the subtitles and they don’t give away the answer before it is spoken.

Sar53 Tue 19-Sep-23 14:32:43

I like Amol, he has more of a sense of humour than Paxman.
I also managed a good handful of answers last night.
I thought Sheffield were a great team with all of them answering the questions, which doesn't always happen.
