Behold, our brand spanking writers' room for budding authors, poets and everything in between. Over to you...

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Mar-15 11:16:08

Will there be any new emoticons introduced to go with this?

Just wondering. smile

Gagagran Fri 20-Mar-15 11:20:18

Well I'm beholding - just as I tried to behold the eclipse and have failed dismally at both. Can't see a thing! Where do I look for this room?

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Mar-15 11:52:23

I think you might be in it Gaga. grin

You have got to write something now you are here.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Mar-15 11:57:33

Gaga had a little camera
Made with cardboard and a pin.
But the Great God didn't play right,
So she chucked it in the f-- sodding bin.

Ana Fri 20-Mar-15 12:00:03

We could have this!

Writer's block

MiniMouse Fri 20-Mar-15 12:02:06

grin jingl I know the feeling sad - need a 'disappointed' emoti!

Anne58 Fri 20-Mar-15 13:14:57

I am currently "working" on something (a poem), although heaven knows when/if it will get finished. It's still at the stage of random phrases. confused

Gagagran Fri 20-Mar-15 13:35:57

Oh thanks Jings - never had a poem in which I featured before! wink

I've had a look round this writing room and I am a bit disappointed with it to be frank. It needs cheering up so here goes:

(Might try and compose something for it all the same!)

My Non Eclipse

We woke up bright and early,
The dogs were still asleep,
We slowly drew the curtains
To have a cautious peep.

We didn't have those glasses
That shield your eyes from glare,
So I squinted through my fingers
To see if 'it' was there.

I should have made a gadget
With some paper and a pin
But despite the fuss and bother,
It would end up in the bin.

I kept on glancing upwards
But the sky delivered nowt
So I wandered down the garden
And let the chickens out.

They didn't seem that bothered,
Not a squawk and not a cluck,
Coz whatever was occurin'
They didn't give a f**k.

So we watched it on the telly,
All those people having fun,
Looking through their special glasses
As the moon obscured the sun.

Thank you Gransnet... thought my suggestion had gone on the 'slush pile' like all the rest of my good ideas smile

There are lots of grans and grandads who are finally able to live the dream of writing their memoirs, a centuries-spanning saga or good old romance .....or even a bit of eroticawink but unless you join a writing group it can all seem a bit lonely. So let's consider this as a virtual writing group were we can try out poems, ask for help.... whatever.

Love your poem merlot Certainly hot-off-the press!!

Maybe there would be enough poetic contributions to compile an anthologygrin.

A little dog is sitting here,
His paw upon my knee.
How does he know
It's half past five?
and time now for his tea.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Mar-15 22:03:54

Would love to hear what your other "good ideas" are absentgrandma. smile

Yawn. hmm

And I thought it might be fun.

Ana Fri 20-Mar-15 22:14:35

Just try putting a bit of 'erotica' on here and you'll be shot down in flames these days! grin

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Mar-15 22:18:58

Who are we supposed to "ask for help" from? Are there experts around?

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 20-Mar-15 22:19:27

I love the idea of this outlet for those of us who would like to write but we probably need bit of time to produce something and to make suggestions for getting the best from it. So keep adding your posts.

Meantime here is a little rhyme that occurred to me when one of my grandchildren was staying over and thinking how contrary adults are.

There is something I find very puzzling,
I've been thinking about it a lot.
Why I have to get up when I'm tired
And get sent to bed when I,m not.

absentgrandma Sat 21-Mar-15 14:13:47

So sorry to disappoint you jinglebells. I expect the art and knitting threads bore you rigid too.

For anyone still interested .. apart from the aforementioned JB who has got lots more exciting things to do .... none of us profess to be experts on this forum (do we??) but some of us may have been down the long and lonely road of publishing and would be happy to share our experiences and perhaps help in giving a 'heads-up ' on forthcoming writing competitions, as well as info on writing website, agents, publisher etc

But if that all seems to boring... well so be it. Sorry I even mooted the idea.

absentgrandma Sat 21-Mar-15 14:15:16

Did I suggest putting erotica on here Ana?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 21-Mar-15 14:25:04

Don't mind me. Good luck with your forum.

I don't actually go on the knitting or artwork threads, so perhaps you are right about me. smile

janerowena Sat 21-Mar-15 14:40:43

Maybe a thread for poetry, and another for prose?

I started the autograph one to bridge the gap, more than anything.

merlotgran Sat 21-Mar-15 14:50:36

Are we supposed to give our posts a separate thread heading so they don't all get muddled up?
