To want my property left alone

number I sympathise - there is a lot of good advice here already, but if thieves are determined then they'll probably come back. It does sound more like a targeted crime than an opportunistic one, as they obviously brought something to cut the chain with. Contact your local crime prevention officer and ask for some advice would be my suggestion.

On a slightly funnier note, some years ago my husband was working on our car attempting (unsuccessfully) to fix a problem. He left it overnight and awoke the following morning to find it missing from in front of the house. How we laughed when we found it just around the corner - which is obviously as far as they'd managed to get before it conked out again. (Last laugh was on us though as eventually it was stolen from the city centre one day.)

We had our ride-on lawn mower stolen from our barn in the middle of the night a few years ago. My husband was livid! Since then he has made the place like fort knox, to the point where even I struggle to get in sometimes!

numberplease DH suggested painting part of the trailer with smartpaint then at least if anyone tried again they would be in a right old mess and you would know who it was,why can't people leave other people's property alone it is the lowest of the low to steal from anyone specially neighbour's,and it has obviously been done by someone nearby by the sound's of thing's.

We've been burgled before now and it's a horrid feeling. We found some of the items dumped down the road and I wasn't sure whether to feel pleased that we got them back or upset that they didn't think they were worth pinching after all

My husband, mustn`t say hubby anymore, doesn`t want a security light, doesn`t like them, but we sleep round the front, so wouldn`t see if it came on anyway. And large, hungry dog is definitely not an option! The thing is, that trailer`s been chained up in the self same place for 12 years, and now someone decides to nick it.

Is there any chance you can get a security light fitted in the yard that come's on automatically if anyone come's into the yard they are available from B&Q and are not expensive,or put a large hungry dog to sleep in the trailer and you won't have the problem again.

He says he`ll take the wheels off at the weekend, at the moment he`s doubled the thickness of the chain that it`s padlocked up with, so, fingers crossed!
As for caravans, we`re scuppered if ours gets stolen, because a few years ago he cancelled the insurance on it, says the van isn`t worth it, but even though it`s an old van, it`s worth something to us (me) also there`s a good few quids worth of stuff inside it as well.

Our city neighbours spotted our caravan being driven out of our drive at high speed one sunny afternoon - Oh, they've sold their caravan, they thought. No, it was being stolen but actually we were no end pleased because the insurance paid us back far more than we were trying to sell it.

In your case, firstly, kick the husband. How could he leave it all to you, what are men for I ask? Then, mine own, removes one of the trailer wheels until we need to use it. Forget spending out on clamps, CCTV and everything else. If you take the wheel off, it aint going anywhere.

Probably number because I am having a company fit it when they wire up my new extension to the rest of the house. You can of course just go to B&Q or Argos and buy the equipment if you are a confident D-I-Y er. Your thieves are just plain sick, it must be odvious what they are stealing.

I am so sick of people stealing anything and everything that I am having CCTV installed to monitor the area surrounding the house.

Lucid, we do have a wheel clamp on the caravan where it`s in storage, it may be a good idea to try it, but then again, according to caravan magazines, caravan thieves seem to find them fairly easy to remove. Hubby says he`ll take the wheels off at the weekend.

Hi numberplease - how awful for you. I don't know if they would fit but you can buy a wheel clamp for a caravan from any good camping/caravan suppliers. They cost about £40 but would at least make the trailer safe. In the short term I think glass's advice is good.

It is back in the yard, Greenmossgiel, the problem is how to secure it, they`ve cut through one good thick chain, so they can cut through another. Glassortwo`s idea could be a short term solution. We had the garage broken into in the early 90s and my son`s new mountain bike stolen, plus one of hubby`s fishing reels, and it was about 10-15 years before I stopped getting up in the night to look out of the windows, now I`ll probably start again.

That's such a shame, numberplease. It's unnerving when you think of someone coming on to your property and taking things away. I hope you can get it back along to your back yard and secured ok. Is there anyone in your family that can help you to do this?

In the short term if nothing else let the other tyre (dont know how many tyres it has) down and it cant be moved, you may have to purchase an electric pump(you can get some cheap cigarette lighter types) to re inflate but easier than DD been without her trailer. Sorry probably not much help.
