my mother-in-law has just given me a basket of bath toiletries for xmas it's the exact same one I gave her 2 years ago ! I hunted high and low for this for her and I hate the fragrance, i know it's the one i bought because i put a sticker over the spot where the price tag was !choice a) into the bin, or choice b) re-gift it back next year

My Dh Gran around July would start to hand back her Christmas gifts and usually you would be handed an item (which on occasions you had bought for her) and she would say "dont know who bought me this but its neither use nor ornament for me, you might as well have it" wink One year she tried to give DD aged 3 bath soaps thinking they were sweets.

I only buy as gifts things I really like myself so if I got it back on my birthday I would not be too upset. Might be a different matter if it was a male gift, whisky maybe, because I don't drink spirits.
I buy Jo Malone, Molten Brown and Origins for ladies so if they would like to swap around a bit it is okay with me. We can't get it right all of the time.

Donate it as a raffle prize at a function you attend!

My mother rarely used the presents I bought her and yes, I sometimes got them back as a gift! It became a standing joke in our house. Since clearing her house I've been using many of them [I like to buy presents I would like as a gift] so they're not wasted smile

The first Christmas present Daughter No.3's MIL gave her (7 days before the wedding) was an evening bag. The bag had been used at a wedding the month before and had been 'recycled' (stain included!) - and that was it. SIL received a return air fare to Brisbane where they were living so he could go and visit them. That was 8 years ago and presents have been along the same lines ever since. This year she received her 4th evening bag (new this time) but not much thought goes into the present as they never go out to an event which necessitates such an item - mainly because they never offer to babysit. SIL got an expensive food processor which does backward flips, so I suppose it will just go on like this.......confused
