Would you still eat it if you found a.......... in it? do not read if your having fish for tea!

Very common to find worms, one needs good eyesight to avoid ingestion. We have been served fish in restaurants that had worms, they usually say they remove the ones they see. we probably eat dishes that have been contaminated.

That's why I wouldn't eat shark. A chef told me all shark have tape worms or similar and they take it out in the kitchen. Mind you its probably on the list of endangered fish now- dont see it so much on menus.

Oh dear! I'm being put right off fish! And I'd just stocked up the freezer too.

In the same week in the early 90's I found a maggot embedded in a weetabix and a huge moth in a bar of Galaxy chocolate.

Cod is well known to have worms in it, some people never eat cod because of it. I have heard that the worms can be quite big !!!!
I found a wasp in a tin of fruit once, also stones in a tin of Baxters soup.
When I complained to Baxters about it they sent me some vouchers (for more soup!!!!) and a letter saying how sorry they were to hear about the stones in the soup , they went on to explain that great care is taken in the production of their soups and only natural ingredients go into their soups.

Lots of fresh fish have worms in, especially cod, haddock etc. Its the red ones inside the scaley bits on the outside of fresh mussels that I don't like!

I don't think I would have eaten the fish but I do wonder just how many "things" we do eat inadvertently

I had skate tonight cooked in a bag with fennel butter form Waitsore - I don't think I'd have seen it if there had been one. Shame you binned it - I'd have taken it back and expected a VERY large voucher along with an abject apology.

This is one of my dreads. I am a veggie except for the occasional bit of white fish. However, a few months ago I read an article about how common worms in fish is. I went right off fish until a few weeks ago. Now, I'm definitely off fish again, this time probably for good.

To be honest if I had cooked the fish all in a one piece..I am sure I would not have notice the offending thing! as it blended in ...it ws an off whitish pale brown colour......I have no chance of "fishing" lol it out...........Im sure it could not have been seen whilst filetingt eh fish........and don;t blam A*da...I shall be leaving fish alone for a while...but we were going to visit and have lunch/tea at a a fish n chip restruant in near Clevelys ..that won best fish n chip shop..!! hmmmmmm.....

Yuk bikergran what a shame! I love fish but not with a side helping of worm! If you can fish (sorry) it out of the bin I would take it back to A... Have found their fish counter good in the past but will look very carefully from now on. Enjoy the beans on toast!

What`s worse, finding a worm, or finding half a worm? No, I couldn`t eat it, but then I`m squeamish anyway. I`d do what`s been suggested, wrap it up and take it back to the shop. When I was a youngster, I used to spend my summer holidays at my grandma`s in Lancashire, she used to come over on the bus to fetch me. Once she stayed overnight, and in the morning she brought out some bacon that she`d brought for all our breakfasts. As she unwrapped it, my mother recoiled in horror, it was crawling with maggots!! My mother was going to bin it, but my grandma was aghast at the idea, so she cooked it and ate it herself!

Extra protein? I eat fried crickets on holiday. Lovely!

I will just take a look at the links it was As*a where I bouth the fish from..theres no way you could have seen this thing as it ws of similar colour I remember once buying a fillt of fish from Mcdonald when they first opened..and found small red worm...blaaaaaaaa I think I have decide I cannot eat it now! looks like beans on toast.... grrrrrrrr......

Well, that article says it only like getting an insect in an apple! Says it's not contamination.

Ask your DH what he reckons Biker. It's not going to do him any harm but perhaps it's better to tell him first.
