Hello all, just joined so please be gentle with me.!

Problem....two sons, one with two boys aged seven and 3 and a half, let's call him son A.
Other son, one child aged three, let's call this one son B.

My wife and I absolutely adore all 3 grandkids and do what we can, when we can in terms of help, childcare etc.

Son A's wife persists in giving us as many pictures of the kids as possible. I don't just mean the odd school photo..I mean, mugs, plates, canvas prints, pens, calenders etc etc. We have so many it is really getting a bit daft.

Son B's wife is different...we get some photos from holidays, school, etc, just a nice amount. The problem is when she comes round to see us the house appears to be a shrine to the other two kids because of the picures everywhere, with just the odd ones of the other grandchild...her child. We don't know what to do for the best or how to approach the problem without upsetting anyone.
Hope you don't think we are being daft...just need some help.

Thanks.

I too am a newby my first comment. We have 9 grandchildren so we were over run with photos. What we did was to say we were de-cluttering and were only going to display one photo of each grandchild so we now have a wall dedicated to them and as they grow and we get an updated photo we just replace the previous one. Problem solved and everyone happy.
Hope this helps

Welcome both - I display the most recent of each and put everything else away in a cupboard. It all gets a bit over the top when you've got mouse mats, cups, pictures on the fridge etc. My children give me kidstuff that they have no room for in their houses - I know what they're up to!!

I know what you mean and I have noticed that when toys get left at ours they are always the noisy ones that do mum and dads heads in. We have just started looking after our youngest GD while mum and dad at work quite convinced we now have all her musical toys which they conveniently forget to take when they pick her up.

Welcome to you both. I think you would be right just to display most recent photos otherwise walls and furniture get a bit cluttered. I have stopped framing my own photos, just leave them on computer and use them as a screen saver.

Welcome to you both,in our house we have up on our "rogues gallery" pic's of our DGCs when they where first born and then when we have new one's from school etc we replace them with most recent other wise we would be over run !!! We are now the proud owner's of multiple photo album's which can be brought out as and when we need to I am sure you will not be thought bad of if you do this.

You could make a collage of photos of both families and put it in a nice frame, regularly updating and replacing old pictures with new ones.

Welcome! I just have current ones up, but like grandadjoiner I have one little family that tend to overwhelm us, while I have to work at getting good photos of the others. You can't win!

Good idea Annobel. My daughter has a hanging arrangement of photos of everyone in the family and some close friends, and my little grandsons like to go through all the photos naming each person. They are learning the difference between relatives and friends, and recently pointed out one close friend, saying 'that's auntie x and she's my mummy's best friend.' So different these days - in the past there would be a few choice photos in frames on the mantelpiece, but now they are everywhere.

All great ideas - certainly displaying the first and last is lovely. Have you made each child its own album with the others? Another is to get a storage box with perhaps castors, labelled with each child's name so that 'their' things can be stored and they can get them out/put them away when they visit. If it was a nice wooden box you could attach a framed picture too and possibly paint it.

Digital photo frame so images can rotate works well and doesn't take up a lot of space. My grand daughters liked it when they were younger as they would wait until they appeared and shout " that's me"

I always get the annual school photos at Christmas. Luckily they have usually turned out to be very good, but just occasionally there's one I wouldn't want to display. Help!

I've got graduation photos that my children object to - they are lovely. One of my sons really doesn't like his and he usually sticks a post-it note over it when he sees it displayed (it's off the wall at the moment after redecorating). It's his own fault he doesn't like it. On the day before his graduation ceremony, I left for work, saying 'see you later, enjoy your meal out with your uni friends.' He was sitting on the sofa, a youthful blond-haired boy, still in his pyjamas.

When I got hom that evening, there was my son again (although I didn't recognise him at first!). He had dark brown hair, stubble, and looked decidedly hung over. He slurred - 'Jim and I decided to dye our hair in the bathroom, but don't worry, we cleaned up.' I looked in my white bathroom and it looked like a murder scene - red-brown dye splashed everywhere!

He had his graduation the following afternoon and the photo is evidence of what went on that day. Serves him right! grin

Easier to run a latest system on family photos, saying that just had a dig from my DS ' how come your prolfile photo on fb is always of you and DD' so that was me told hmm

I have a similar poblem Carol, my youngest son and his friend decided to dye their hair auburn just 3 days before his aunts wedding, his was a lovely very light blonde, it turned out bright fluorescent pink, I found him hiding in the shed, I tried washing it several times but it didn't even fade, so out of desperation I bought some hair bleach, problem was, in the wedding photo's he looked like a belisha beacon, especially as he had a grey suit, he hides these photo's whenever he gets the chance

amber that made me laugh out loud grin

Amber isn't that typical - just before a big event? grin

Funny how alcohol enables men to do the daftest things!
