AIBU to expect that my Daughter speaks to me like an adult rather than a 5 year old, I have had to walk into another room I am steaming angry

bagitha Sun 08-Apr-12 18:04:30

Oh dear! No, you're not being unreasonable!

Anagram Sun 08-Apr-12 18:06:47

No, of course you're not!

jeni Sun 08-Apr-12 18:09:41

I get that from my bossy teacher DD also. I have just learned to zip it, which is most unlike me!

Oh glass - Grrrrr! No wonder you're angry. Hope it's a one-off.

greenmossgiel Sun 08-Apr-12 18:18:50

Do you find that sometimes, the way you are spoken to by your 'children' can be quite patronising? hmm

Anagram Sun 08-Apr-12 18:20:35

Yes!! And occasionally I have noticed a hint of sarcasm! shock

jeni Sun 08-Apr-12 18:21:55

YES!

Greatnan Sun 08-Apr-12 18:25:42

Yes, my daughter can be quite bossy with me. Sometimes I reply sharply, but mainly I just let it go.

jeni Sun 08-Apr-12 18:28:47

We were never like that with our parents! We're we?

greenmossgiel Sun 08-Apr-12 18:29:56

Perhaps sometimes I come over as being a bit vague.....! My son in particular, speaks very quickly, and has quite a broad Fife accent! I can take a few moments to process in my mind, what he has said - and by that time he's moved on to the next thing. By the time I reply to him, I'm replying to the wrong comment! confused

jeni Sun 08-Apr-12 18:37:57

That's the problem I have with both of mine! They gabble! My antique brain doesn't process at that speed and I keep sayin what? They accuse me of being deaf! I'm not! My hearing is still excellent! So there!

Anagram Sun 08-Apr-12 18:40:08

If I forget something she's told me, DD can get quite tetchy! Probably scared I'm losing it and she'll end up having to look after me in my dotage - that'd teach her! grin

greenmossgiel Sun 08-Apr-12 18:52:37

jeni and Anagram - thank goodness I'm not the only one! grin

jeni Sun 08-Apr-12 19:01:00

I think they are all like that these days. We are the ignorant generation.
But we still love them, and adore their offspring.
Don't we?

greenmossgiel Sun 08-Apr-12 19:03:59

We do, jeni, we do! smile

Anagram Sun 08-Apr-12 19:06:09

They are just so overwhelmingly gorgeous aren't they? (the offspring rather more so than our DC!)

Annobel Sun 08-Apr-12 19:09:04

My senior GD (20) has started now!

Anagram Sun 08-Apr-12 19:13:33

Oh, no! That means I'll have two more of them on my case in about 15 years...

petallus Sun 08-Apr-12 19:16:55

All of the above the same with me and my DDs. I'm so pleased I'm not the only one. I too am inclined to just zip.

I bet sons don't do it.

jeni Sun 08-Apr-12 19:17:12

You'll love it!

glassortwo Sun 08-Apr-12 19:19:28

I have decided that I am putting her up for adoption grin

Anagram Sun 08-Apr-12 19:20:08

Possibly by then I won't care, jeni!

I don't think sons do do it, petallus. They seem to be more protective towards their mothers...(sigh!)

jeni Sun 08-Apr-12 19:21:22

I wish!

wisewoman Sun 08-Apr-12 19:24:06

Oh yes, sons do it.. They can be protective AND patronising at the same time.
