Am I alone in wanting to crawl back under the duvet and sleep through until summer?
Conditions seem to be close to apocalyptic and this is in the "soft" East Midlands. Quite surprised not to see damage when I got up this morning. Where is the sunshine ?

Bucketing in Berks this morning.

I quite like it.

DH has gone out to a model float planes day. (--he he he--) Poor DH. He will get wet. smile

No gracesmum you are not alone ...wind battered night ...dark, damp, dismal day!! Have had to put on the lights!! shock

Annobel Sun 29-Apr-12 11:58:36

I'm crawling back with you gm. I have just had to rescue my garden wheelie bin from my gravel bed and the big trees the other side of the brook are almost bending double. Even worse than it was in Paris a week ago! Even the collar doves seem to be lying low today. Not a day for enjoying the great outdoors, unless you're some kind of freak. wink

Oops! I've been busted. He's come home and me still in my dressing gown! grin

For once it is not raining here. I can't help thinking it is the calm before the storm though.

tanith Sun 29-Apr-12 13:09:53

Rain was so hard it came under the front door and through the letter box last night...

lots of bits of tree branches in the road this morning and its still blowing and pelting down..

Sbagran Sun 29-Apr-12 14:00:29

Same here in 'sunny' Devon tanith - the carpet just inside our front door is saturated - hasn't happened before so must just have been the angle of the wind direction? Not much like summer is it!!! grin

I know we have a drought and I know there are April showers but this is taking the p***. I had a weeks leave the week before last - we had a fall of hail everday. I always take time off this time of year to attend to my garden, mowing planting out etc. Well I've hardly done a thing and my windowsills are full of plants ready for the off. The only thing is there is a lot of growth and my Hostas as really enjoying this wet. But I'm getting cabin fever........

kittylester Sun 29-Apr-12 14:35:13

When I went to bed last night it was raining and hasn't stopped since! It is definitely the wettest drought I've ever known and we didn't even need Denis Howell this time! Where about is the East Mids are you Gracesmum? We are just outside Loughborough.

Pouring all day here in south Cornwall, too. We overlook a reservoir and you could surf on it today, the waves are so big! Tried gardening yesterday, when although grey and dull it wasn't actually raining, but my heart wasn't in it and I was glad to stop. Roll on summer!

goldengirl Sun 29-Apr-12 14:58:48

It's heaving in Hertfordshire too! The park where the GC play is a swamp. And of course we have a hosepipe ban - not that we need it at the moment!

Oldgreymare Sun 29-Apr-12 15:21:44

Brrrr! Put the heating on to warm up then decided a good old -muck out- hoover around would do the job! blush

Oldgreymare Sun 29-Apr-12 15:22:28

Try muck out

Trouble with this weather it bring's out the slug's, have to go deslugging every night. They've had a good go at my Petunia's , might have to buy some more. That mean's more gardening, and I dont do gardening if I can help it. does my back in. Am I the only one who doesn't like gardening ? especially in the rain.

Anagram Sun 29-Apr-12 15:51:11

chitchat, you don't have to do it! grin

Life's too short to do gardening if you hate it - let it all grow over and convert it to a wildlife haven!

gracesmum Sun 29-Apr-12 15:56:08

We're about 2 miles from Junction 14 on the M1, North Bucks -kl but I think the whole country is in danger of developing webbed feet today - and it is SO cold!

gracesmum Sun 29-Apr-12 16:44:50

Far be it from me to speak too soon, but I am reminded of the words of the immortal Allan Sherman:

"Wait a minute, it stopped hailing,
Guys are swimming, guys are sailing,
Playing baseball, gee that's better,
Muddah Fadduh kindly disregard this letter.post"

Ariadne Sun 29-Apr-12 17:51:43

Just back in Kent from an extremely wet and windy Goucestershire, and as we progressed, the sun came out and the M25 was almost pleasant. Still cold though, and it has obviously rained a lot here.

Had great time with two littlest GDs and their mum and dad but...

Home's nice, isn't it?

Annobel Sun 29-Apr-12 18:24:16

The forecast for tomorrow is for 18C. Could that be accurate?
