Yes, I was furious when Monty Don said 'see you in a month.' I love GW and it has a huge following. Why suspend it right in the middle of summer?

Any gardener will tell you a month is a long time in the garden, such a lot will have changed just go away for a few weeks and see what you come home to
A month is too long, but as usual sport gets the casting vote and everything else is put on the back burner

Such a shame, I love watching Monty and Carol, even Joe has grown on me especially after the debacle of that other fellow being in charge for a while (when it should have been Carol). Its bad enough when he miss the odd week, but a month is rediculous. Especially as they managed to bombard us with wall to wall Chelsea....which after a while did get a bit tedious!

Alan Titchmarsh is back on Tuesday with Love Your Garden. Hate the twee title and it's not a patch on GW but it does show some lovely gardens.

Monty tweeted that Wimbledon and snooker are the cause of no Gardeners World for 4 weeks.

Just repeating his tweet! He was making the point that GW didn't have to make way for the Olympics, but it did for Wimbledon & snooker. Is it the Crucible thing coming up?

I just checked merlot, it was held recently at the Crucible. Here's Monty's tweet.....

no. funnily enough the multi billion Olympiad can't snuff what snooker or Wimbledon extinguishes.

In any event, how will we know what jobs to do in the garden this weekend without Monty to point the way over the next month?

I get the impression that presenting gardening programmes is very competitive - too few programmes for a start. Alan Titchmarsh must be clapping his hands at the Beeb's decision to ditch Monty for a month. Alys Fowler, Toby Buckland, Anne Marie Duff, Charlie Dimmock and loads of others have faded into obscurity.

One feels that the months break is down to more than tennis and snooker being in the offing. After all - the BEEB has 4 channels and as has been said already, gardening is currently a very popular passtime. 30 mins is a drop in the ocean of the week's schedules.
I heard that the BEEB has lost the rights to televise Royal Ascot - if only they could jettison the snooker - I for one would be extremely happy. When there's a competition on it goes on for hours to the exclusion of all other. Come on Sky - hurry up and buy the snooker!

This is quite a quiet time in the garden though. Time to just sit back and let the weeds overrun the place let it grow.

jings I'd love to sit back and watch the weeds grow take stock of all my hard work but the sun lounger is still in the shed.

I am sorry that GW always seems to have to take second place to whatever else is on. We will have wall to wall tennis enough for the next fortnight - surely the Beeb could spare a space on BBC2 or 4? I would love to think that they lost the rights to Ascot on account of the lamentable River Pageant coverage, but that would be wishful thinking!

Just read the blurb about tonight's Love Your Garden. I hoped it was going to be like the last series, showing how people design and plant their own lovely gardens but it looks like Ground Force revisited.

Money and viewing figures rule the scheduling!

I enjoyed Love your Garden and it did show what can be achived in a small town garden if you only have lots of money, labour and expertise!!!!
