When I arrived home there was an ' unable to deliver' card.
I accessed the web site as directed.it doesn't work!
I looked for the phone number to ring. Not given.
I'm apparently expected to go and retrieve from the local office.

1im disabled
2 no parking
3 how do I carry the package on two crutches?

Bribery?

Barrow Wed 11-Jul-12 17:07:04

Oh no - I think the whole village would be up in arms if he was transferred!

jeni Wed 11-Jul-12 17:00:35

Can you arrange for him to be transferred to portishead. Mines a jobs worth!

Barrow Wed 11-Jul-12 16:36:30

We have a lovely postman in our village. I always know when he is on holiday because the post is delivered earlier - because he always stops and has a chat with people. If I am out and he has a parcel he puts one of those cards through the door but writes on it which neighbour he has left it with. When my husband died he knocked on the door and asked if there was anything he could do - lovely man. I always tell him when I am going to be away and he comes into the garden, even if I have no post, just to make sure everything is OK.

I send my ID with them!
If they don't I shall get VERY CROSS INDEED!
An angry jeni is not a pretty sight!
Trust me I'm a ( what am I ?
Who am I
Why am I upstairs?)

jeni, I often have to go to the PO for work to collect recorded delivery letters which the postie hasn't bothered to ring the doorbell about!
Just make sure Bob has your signed authority, and a recent utility bill in respect of your property.

yogagran Wed 11-Jul-12 15:32:52

Are you sure that the PO will give the parcel/package to someone else jeni, perhaps it HAS to be you

Last year we had a letter delivered ...the first line of the address was correct, different name to ours and the last line was 'Australia'!!! I managed to give it back to our lovely postie who laughed when I said, ' right address, wrong continent.' Something to do with the automatic sorting machine. grin

Hope you get it sortedjeni and am looking forward to The Close...

Latest in the mail saga!
I caught the postie today.
Apparently as its a signed for delivery I have to go to the po to collect. They will not redeliver!
This is a farce! I shall now have to ask Bob (taxi driver not builder) to get it for me!

I am beginning to feel like a MD with the number of people I have to employ!
Fortunately they are all self employed so I don't have to worry about NI and tax.

At least my money is keeping others in employment. But I would like some for me! I'm not greedy! I just want to go on the very occasional cruise!sad

You can buy lockers that allow you to have parcels delivered when you are out all day. Combination lock I believe. May not be the most attractive feature of a garden but does serve the purpose.

jeni Tue 10-Jul-12 22:07:58

jeni Tue 10-Jul-12 21:19:17

[hmph]

Anagram Tue 10-Jul-12 21:17:09

Hope you can get it sorted, jeni.

The cards that annoy me, especially at work, are the ones which say there wasn't enough postage put on the item of mail. The postie used to come into the office and we'd give him the money out of petty cash, but now the only options are to go to collect the letter from the sorting office and pay up, or stick the appropriate amount in stamps on their card and return it, then they'll deliver the item. Twice when I have done that the card has come straight back to the office, with all the stamps franked!

confused

jeni Tue 10-Jul-12 21:14:41

If they gave a phone no as they used to, fine!

By the way, as johanna seems to be amused. Would you like a " the strange life of my close " occasional article?

Mishap Tue 10-Jul-12 21:07:46

We have a lovely postie here - he knows everyone as he too lives in the village. He uses his imagination when we are not in and puts small things in the shed or goes to one of the neighbours. He knows that we all get on with each other.

As to couriers - they all do their best, but their satnavs take them to the worng place - a nearby holiday cottage - so we don't even get the "I tried to deliver" card. Mostly we make a point of explaining the problem when we order things.

I get p****d off with Royal Mail bringing advertising stuff that has to go straight into the recycling! I understand that they need to do this for financial reasons - but we could do without it.

Jeni - is there any way of having a chat with the local RM office and explaining the problems? As someone has said, they need to keep their customers happy now that they are in a competitive market.

jeni Tue 10-Jul-12 21:04:38

I agree! This close is like midsommer.
We're all elderley and perhaps (mildly) eccentric!
Gary (Gardner) now does garden for 80+ year old. Also occasionally for angel when git is away cycling!
I think he's also doing a bit for the lady across the road in her 80s who still does building work!
She also holds coffee mornings for Liam Fox. She puts the union flag up outside when he's coming!

jeni Tue 10-Jul-12 20:58:26

Yes. It's gorgeous! I'll get a picture when I'm on my cruise with a back dress and post itt!
