To ask people to read posts before replying to them

I get very frustrated from time to time when reading an interesting thread to come across a post where it is perfectly clear that the poster hasn't read the post to which she/he is responding. It's mildly irritating when someone just posts a random remark that doesn't really have a lot of relevance but it is infuriating when someone either patronises me as if I am a complete half wit or leaps to the barricades to defend something I haven't attacked. I think my posts are usually fairly clear and easy to understand so I am at a loss to explain why this seems to be happening with increasing frequency. confused angry

Maybe you're seen as, ahem, too robust, absent wink, and clearly this must be tackled robustly with random side wipes, oops, I mean swipes. Guerilla grannies, wot?

gracesmum Mon 10-Sep-12 14:40:27

Where a thread runs to several pages it is understandable and even excusable to be moved to post at the outset without reading through all the other replies/comments - life is just too short. Has this been the case perhaps?

JO4 Mon 10-Sep-12 14:46:50

I don't kinow what this ones about either. hmm

Ella46 Mon 10-Sep-12 14:51:01

This is why I use the bookmark facility!!

kittylester Mon 10-Sep-12 14:55:38

I feel that people should stick to the topic and not use threads to trot out the same old, same old and then use it as a reason to get nasty, again and again.

Soop said, on another thread, that she avoids certain threads, which I do too. I tend to miss out the politics and religion threads only to be caught out on a totally innocuous looking thread that has been hijacked.

absent I think you may be robust but there are other posters equally, and in my view, even more (!!) robust. It is not necessary when exchanging views to be personal, condescending or flippant which I have never thought you are. Not being 'robust', but happy to listen to everyone (or a chameleon), I have felt patronised by other posters and it is not how GN used to be. sad

Isn't it a shame?

Pls stop posting pictures of me lol

JO4 Mon 10-Sep-12 15:19:08

grin

soop Mon 10-Sep-12 15:31:52

kitty I'm relieved that I'm alone in feeling angst whenever the same old topics usually end in a lot of virtual pushin' and shovin' and some members thinks it's perfectly reasonable to get nasty for the umpteenth time in order to score points. I'm feeling sad. I wish that I could wipe the last session of argy bargy from my mind...but I can't. "Group hugs" and winks tend to leave me a little cold. I'm off to do something positive...tackle the ironing, for instance.

kittylester Mon 10-Sep-12 15:37:22

soop that is, if I may say so, an extreme reaction! grin

glitabo Mon 10-Sep-12 15:37:25

soop
Well said, I must admit that this is also playing on my mind and I need to take a break from this. Fortunately my DGD is coming for tea and then I am taking her to her ballet class. I can only feel good after that.

Lilygran Mon 10-Sep-12 16:34:42

Why I can't we be flippant?

kittylester Mon 10-Sep-12 16:47:35

Sorry, Lilygran I didn't put it very well. I meant flippant about other members views if they are different from their own. I find that rude and, in a way, bullying.

AlisonMA Mon 10-Sep-12 16:47:46

soop that's what I was doing when you posted grin. I have just completed it all from last week when the house was full of family.

Elegran Mon 10-Sep-12 16:48:02

soop I agree. It is like fighting the battle of Waterloo again and again. No ground is ever won or lost, the same volleys and charges end up with the same results, the same casualties are wounded (some in the back) or retreat from the field to lick their wounds .....

(PS I am currently reading a biography of the duke of Wellington)
