Time of the year, frida? I spoke out of turn to someone today. And I'm really annoyed at myself .

Gloomy, dank day here, early dusk and the prospect of the clocks going back on Saturday night - no wonder spirits are low.... Not to mention the C word being bandied about on TV and elsewhere before October's even out!

I was in a murderous mood well before lunchtime. A vital part of my mother's prescription didn't turn up at her care home so muggins here had to drive six miles to collect it, two lightbulbs went within minutes of eachother, a ton of post that should have been delivered to a nearby marina turned up here so I suppose it's up to me to redirect it although I felt like chucking the whole lot on the bonfire, the Tesco delivery was forty minutes late and half the newspaper was missing. DH has been hiding in his shed most of today.

Just got worse!Hosed down very muddy car because its going for a service, plodded through muddy field to feed the chickens, slipped in the mud- pity I was still wearing a white fluffy dressing gown.

I had exactly the opposite sort of day. I woke up and decided that I couldn't put off painting the kitchen ceiling any longer. I hate painting ceilings and I especially hate doing the second coat because it's so difficult to tell where you have already been. With a total lack of enthusiasm I seized my paint roller and mounted the step ladder. Eventually I reckoned I'd covered it all and I had an aching neck and right shoulder, so enough was enough. Then, of course there was the endless boring washing of the paint roller, brush and tray. In spite of my having slung dusts sheets around in a strategic manner, a fine spatter of white paint covered much of the worktops, so they had to be tackled with a green scourer. So from a feeling of miserable anticipation my mood had declined into bored irritability and fatigue.

A hot shower later and dressed in clean, non-paint-spattered jeans, I felt on top of the world and full of self-satisfaction.

You're very good washing the paint roller, absent If I've finished a room I sling the thing in the dustbin usually getting paint all down my front trying to remove the handle. If I need to use it the following day I wrap it in cling film. I tell myself I'm saving water by not washing it but really I can't be bothered

absentgrana I too am feeling very smug as I painted the cloakroom today. Paint roller went in the bin though!

I need the roller for the walls – and have done two-thirds of them this morning. The remaining one-third will probably happen on Sunday (tomorrow is sheet changing, towel changing, face exfoliating, leg shaving, intensive hair conditioning and so on and so on day). It's looking good ladies; it's looking good, although Mr absent couldn't resist pointing out a bit that was wavy between wall and ceiling. He can sleep in the park tonight!

As ! if I didn't feel fed up enough with world already, I now feel guilty for not being superactive and giving the kitchen the deep clean it needs. Not to mention the repainting it needs!

I was naughty enough to smile at the idea of poor Grannylin slipping in the mud, whilst going to feed the chickens in a white fluffy dressing gown.

was it Hermans Hermits?? no doubt someone will know... I have just started taking VIT B complex and Vit C . some says waste of time..but others the opposiet so I shall wait and see

Such a beautiful day here today.Took the dog down to the beach and had my camera and car keys in a Tesco bag.Got a bit carried away chasing the dog, paddling and looking for treasures in the sand.Suddenly noticed there was a hole in the bag and the camera was hanging out...and the keys had disappeared...and the tide was coming in.Yep lost the keys forever Kind lady dropped me off at home, broke into the house( too easy) and searched for spare plastic key.Now waiting for DD to leave work and give me a lift to the beach to get the car( just hoping no one found the key and has stolen the car with purse,phone etc)Phoned about replacement key...takes 5 days and costs £210. need a

Grannylin Dear me...what a catastrophe...you must be feeling awful. £210 is an awful lot to pay for what should have been a perfectly pleasant stroll along the beach. Thank goodness for the kind lady's assistance. I hope that things get sorted before too long. Keep us informed.

Grannylin; you haven't got any sort of insurance policy that covers the keys, have you; cardguard or anything. I'm only asking because I sometimes read the small print on insurance policies and find I'm covered for all sorts of things that I didn't know about [albeit never for anything that I need to claim for ].

It's rotten when you're having one of those 'isn't life wonderful days' and then you hit the ground with a bump. I was once having a lovely walk along the coast in Cornwall with the dog, when I suddenly realised I'd left the car window open, and had to run all the way back. Thankfully everything was still there as I'd left it.
