To find Claudia Winkelman the most irritating woman on TV?

Oh dear, oh dear - I simply have no clue about any of these women!!!! But I do think it's pretty certain that the very characterful Claudia will step up to Bruce's spot!

Now that is irritating. And not because of how she looks, what she wears or how she talks.

Nope, it's because she is exploiting her limited cleverness to best effect! Come on, who's gonna vote for Claudia! Actually, I've just remembered I was on Countdown in the Richard Whiteley days and Carol was completely marvellous - as opposed to RW who was not.

He was very, very grumpy! Carol was all about the place being nice to everyone - Rick Wakeman was with Susie and he too was lovely. Whitely was a bit of a Prima. Maybe if I'd won, I'd have liked him more of course.

My daughter used to work for Rick Wakeman when his marriage to Nina Carter was hitting the rocks. She is still in touch with him and his kids.

Carol Vorderman really annoys me with her smug attitude to herself. I don't watch Loose Women too often, but always turn it off very fast if she's 'in charge'.
For Midlanders, Anne Davies ,of local news, is my 'annoyance'. She's a good presenter but constantly tries to be a fashion model ,with different, often much too young for her, outfits, every day --not to mention the hairstyles !
All our other female presenters look so much nicer, and aren't afraid to wear the same outfit more than once. She's on TV this evening and looks awful in a black 'nightie' dress and bouffant hair.
I do like Louise Minchin and Fiona Bruce though!

Let's hear it for Claudia. Infinitely better than Bruce. And I admire her determined resistance of conventional glamorous fashion.
Not easy to do with a welter of magazines making a living out of picking holes in the appearance of any woman in the news. Nasty misogynistic publications all.
She's better at delivering a line than Bruce too.

I actually like a lot of the strong, lively, successful young women named on this thread. Wasn't it Christine Bleakley who water-skied across the channel for CiN one year?
Too much misogynism. I expect it from my ma-in-laws generation who were brought to believe men were gods, but not in my generation.

Over 30 years ago I worked for Anthea Redfern (Brucie's second wife) both were very nice people.

It was a pity that her role on The Generation Game required her to be the 'dumb blonde' - as off screen she was quick-witted with a great sense of humour. If her career had taken a different path she could have been more of a Joanna Lumley figure.

It's a disappointment that after all these decades young women are still seen as, in the main, 'TV hostesses' as opposed to the main presenter.

But I expect they're earning a lot of money, so good luck to them.

I've never forgiven Carol Vorderman for advertising some sort of loan company; anyone who encourages people with financial problems to borrow money from unscrupulous companies when they should be contacting CAB or their bank is disgusting imo. I'm afraid something like that clouds my opinion on someone forever.

Nanadog I missed out a letter – the word should have been call not all (it misogynistic). You are, of course, entitled to like or dislike any of the women mentioned here or anywhere else for that matter, but I felt it was unreasonable to suggest that those of us who found some of them irritating were being misogynistic. I am pretty sure that most, if not all of us do not regard men as gods but the original post happened to be talking about women not men. I for one could certainly write a lengthy list of men who irritate me, starting with Terry Wogan and working up.

Occurred to me a few years ago that there are many more "irritating women" on the Archers than there are "irritating men".
Sounds like the latest nasty reality TV thing in the jungle is mainly about bullying women to eat worms.
The world is a misogynistic one and we can all behave in a misogynistic manner from time to time. I will hold up my hand as one of the guilty.

Well I think that is right crimson and no wonder, when men commit the vast majority of crimes, for instance.
But it is not fair to expect higher standards of youthful beauty on women doing same jobs as men.
Imagine if Strictly was presented by an attractive young man with a flirtatious manner and a nice northern accent, while top billing went to an 84 year old female entertainer (much loved in her day of course) whose trademark seems to be delivering lame jokes badly?

I'm sure when Claudia took over the Film programme after Jonathan Ross had to leave she bemoaned the fact that she wasn't pretty enough for high profile work. It's so unfair that women have such constant pressure on them to look good. And, if we're honest about it, it's us women that are the biggest critics. I've long believed that women dress for other women; not men. Since when did a man notice well manicured nails for instance. Or could they describe which earrings their girlfriend/wife was wearig the night before?

I can't quite follow your reasoning there, crimson. Why would Claudia Winkelman think she wasn't pretty enough for high profile work? I think she's a terrible replacement for Jonathan Ross, who for all his faults did have extensive knowledge of films in general, but I don't think the powers-that-be gave the job to Claudia because of or despite her looks!

She did say something about her looks in an interview, but I don't know who interviewed her or which publication it was for. I only saw Film Night a couple of times after she took over [and that wasn't for the whole programme] but wasn't impressed with the way she presented it. However, the comment about her looks [whatever it was she said] made me warm to her somewhat. I'd assume the BBC would have had to fill the gap quite quickly when Wossy left, but I do expect my film pundits to be as obsessed about film as I am [ which Wossy was; I mean, look at his wife's achievements in that sphere].
