To find Claudia Winkelman the most irritating woman on TV?

In 1963 I looked just like Claudia Winkelman - of course I was only 17 at the time! Why does a grown woman with children want to go round looking like an overgrown schoolgirl in a little Dollyrocker dress? Why has no one taken a pair of scissors to that dreadful fringe that she peers through. Why has no one told her that black eyes and white lips hasn't been a good look for 45 years? And WHY does she have to ruin perfectly good programmes with her inane remarks and giggles. I used to love the BBC's film programme - I even managed to put up with Jonathan Ross presenting it- but I only managed half an hour when she took over and I had to switch off before I threw something through the screen. I record the Strictly results show so I can fast forward through her bits and the Strictly- it takes two show is an obvious non starter. angry

hadn't

No Nanban I hadn'. That's interesting. I'll watch out.

Deeda Susannah Reid is the one paired with Bill Turnbull on Breakfast these days. She does lots of hand clasping, thigh slapping and, when given half a chance, singing.

specki4eyes Apart from the egregious Natasha Kaplinsky who, for all I know, might now be dead, Louise Minchin is the only newsreader I have seen who finds disasters, war and other catastrophes a reason to grin, twitch and wink.

Anybody else noticed that since the advent of Kate Middleton blondes are disappearing from our screens from weather girls on!

Can`t stand either Susanna Reid or simpering Louise Minchin. My favourite lady in the mornings was Sian Williams, but she`s not on there now. I really like Bill Turnbull.

Is Susannah Reid the one who's grown her hair long? It's the little girl thing again. At least she looked as if se'd got a couple of brain cells when it was shorter.

The most irritating woman on tv is Susannah Reid. Louise Minchin is great and always seems to connect with the subject matter, which is more than can be said for Susannah who always smiles and simpers inappropriately, looks smug when she's read something off the autocue then squeezes her cleavage and crosses her legs like Kenny Everett's Cupid Stunt. She is a complete airhead, in my opinion and gives telly journalism a bad name. I come down to the kitchen in the mornings and if she is on, it sets my teeth on edge straight away. My DH usually gives me one minute to start ranting about her!

Twerp! He didn't 'know' anything, just memorised lists.

Greatnan Mon 19-Nov-12 22:31:40

He was a member of the Eggheads quiz team - extremely satisfied with himself and very arrogant. It was obvious that the rest of the team loathed him!

glitabo Mon 19-Nov-12 22:07:40

Who is CJ?

Deedaa Mon 19-Nov-12 21:26:59

Actually I am the one person who was quite fond of CJ (possibly because my family always called me CJ) My husband likes Chris because he is very like him in many ways. Mondays are the best night at the moment - Eggheads, University Challenge AND Only Connect.

Greatnan Mon 19-Nov-12 17:30:16

I am a quiz junkie - I am currently watching The Chase and Breakaway has been recording. I have already watched The Weakest Link and Countdown. My favourites, though, are the difficult ones -Mastermind and University Challenge. I can watch and surf at the same time. I have been looking at old episodes of Only Connect on iportal Catch-up.
I used to enjoy taking part in quizzes, but now there are too many questions on pop music, films and sport.

Sel Mon 19-Nov-12 17:23:16

Good to see some 'Only Connect' fans. I love it. I remember the first time I watched it and loved that even the categories were mostly a mystery - now I do know my 'twisted flax'. I also love Victoria Coren's humour and intelligence and SO love the fact she's married David Mitchell..my favourite male comedian, a marriage made in heaven methinks (an awww emotican)

Anyway, CJ`s gone now, so we don`t have to put up with him anymore. Not too sure about the new bloke yet, "Incredible knowledge Dave".

Ella46 Mon 19-Nov-12 09:10:44

I agree with you Greatnan, Kevin, Barry and Pat are good, CJ is a moody pain in the proverbial, Daphne simpers too much and Judith is a one off!

Greatnan Mon 19-Nov-12 09:02:49

How easy it is to get distracted - I have just spent a pleasant ten minutes looking at statistics for Eggheads! I have mixed feelings about Daphne, as I think she pretends to be guessing sometimes. I liked her on '15 to One'.
There is universal hatred of CJ on the various Egghead sites!
I do find it irritating when the quizmasters are so patronising - 'Yes, well done, ten times two is twenty'.

JessM Mon 19-Nov-12 09:00:15

Was intrigued to note from Mastermind trailer that "East German Athletics" was the subject of choice by one of contestants

1. Which world records, held by EG Athletes remain unbeaten since reunification?
2. Which androgenic steroid was the one favoured by the EG team coach

etc grin

Nanadog Mon 19-Nov-12 08:16:25

You forgot Daphne.

Greatnan Mon 19-Nov-12 08:11:01

I heard John Humphreys (Mastermind) interviewing Jeremy Paxman (University Challenge) on Today. Paxman said he was staggered by the extent of knowledge of some of the contestants, but the type of knowledge had changed. One team could not identify three very well-known (I thought!) hymns, including The Lord's My Shepherd, but they had wide knowledge on science, astronomy, technology, art, and classical music.
I, too, often wonder why some teams enter Eggheads when they lack even rudimentary knowledge of anything other than pop music/TV/films/sport.
I do wonder about the value of learning long lists off by heart, which is apparently what the professional quizzers do - I suppose it earns them a good living, but surely there must be more creative ways of spending your time? (Does anybody like CJ? Or Chris? I do like Kevin, Barry and Pat, and Judith, although she has no more general knowledge than any reasonably educated person).

Lilygran Mon 19-Nov-12 08:07:39

But it isn't only women who do badly on quizzes! Only Connect doesn't rely on learning long lists of trivial detail and both sexes fail to giggle or express ignorance. Pointless is excellent as well, partly because the contestants have to use their judgment as well as dragging the trivia out of the memory. What makes me scream at the telly: 'This isn't the best subject for me' and 'It's an informed guess'. No, it's a wild stab.

Lilygran Mon 19-Nov-12 07:59:08

And geography. Lots of confusion about what is a city/country/state.

annodomini Sun 18-Nov-12 23:07:26

Deeda, you wonder 'why are they always so appalled if they have to answer questions on Arts & Books?' What I'd like to ask is, why are they always so appalling on Arts and Books, not to mention history?

Deedaa Sun 18-Nov-12 21:54:55

Actually may have to rethink Victoria Coren now that I find Claudia Winkleman is a Best Friend shock

numberplease Sun 18-Nov-12 18:07:54

I hadn`t realised that Alan Coren was no longer with us, shows how much I`m out of touch!

Ella46 Sun 18-Nov-12 18:07:41

I love Only Connect, but I think Victoria C has become insufferably smug in this latest series.
I shout at the tv blush.

Elegran Well, she looks like Miss Piggy! grin
