My long term relationship has ended - we've gone our separate ways quite amicably. We didn't live together but he was around and gave me a certain emotional security. Financially I'm fine but I feel rathe ralone in the world. Not much family contact and only one close frind who i see every few weeks.

Still work part time but don't get to meet many people through work. I just feel a bit lost - not devstated or tearful or anything like that, not even lonely, though a perhaps a little sad. AIBU to not know how to adjust. Any ideas/thoughts/inspiration?

Gransnet is a good place to start, plenty of people to talk to on a variety of topics. I think it is natural to feel a little lost when your life changes in this way smile

As harri says, we're a good starting point. I can waste spend hours pootling around on G'net. But apart from being a great displacement activity when the windows need cleaning, we meet many people who have similar experiences as well as people who can give us new ideas. If you live in any of the areas where we have get-togethers, you will be able to meet us face to face - NW meet-up on Wednesday!

We're having one in Glasgow in a couple of weeks, grassgreen. If you live close by, you're very welcome to join us? smile
We give each other a good bit of emotional support on Gransnet - you'll find us a friendly (if sometimes quite 'spikey) bunch! wink

grassgreen flowers its never easy whatever one's age. I am no great shakes as a mixer but I have learned that one of the best ways of meeting new people (who may or may not become friends) is to get out and do something for others whithout any real expectation of a return. Voluntary work can be anything and take up as much or as little time. Just doing something for someone else always cheers me up.

A warm welcome grassgreen how your life will be changed for the better on here you will be wondering what you did all day before you joined ??
Its sad when a relationship ends but life evolves and we all change don't we but as one door closes ........... as the saying goes, even though you work part-time can you consider doing maybe an afternoon maybe at a charity shop and make new friends there or join a group and learn a new hobbie,I would love to learn to paint but I am clueless when putting paint to paper all comes out abstract somehow (but may be worth a fortune in the years to come).
Keep posting and join in the conversations flowers

hello grass
Remember separating from my husband of 26 years. Had been together for 28years did feel rather adrift for sometime, and very exposed and vulnerable, even though it was my decision,so yes think you are going to feel lost and a bit like a spare part, but you will soon find your feet,I believe that you have to go looking though as no one comes a looking for you..meanwhile GN is very supportive and ideas will come your way,I am in Norfolk are you nearby...xxxflowers

Hi grassgreen. I divorced 10 years ago and was surprised to find how lonely I felt; I've always been quite solitary and thought being on my own would be fine, but then going from Friday afternoon when work finished to Monday morning when it began again I wasn't seeing or speaking to a soul. I'm pretty sure that having access to forums like gransnet would have made the world of difference to how I felt at the time. It's great to be able to discuss what's happening in the news, what's on the telly or at the cinema etc. Welcome smile.
