OH has just come back from an interview for a position with a new to our area company that fits tyres, exhausts, primarily and does other repairs also,it is a largish company, family owned so our research tells us,and has been established for 40 years...no problem you would think with that, the interviews being conducted in a McDonald's as the unit being built is not completed..ok fair enough,by a Phil Mitchell look alike, the joke started when PMLA asked OH what wage he was expecting ,now not being greedy admitted he would be happy with X amount oh no you don't says PMLA (Phil Mitchell look alike) we don'pay wages every thing you earn is bonus only, you have to "discover faults such as brakes, pads discs ,cv joints exhausts" that need to be replaced now, every replacement has a payment value,if you don't make a good bonus you are out the door,we may if you are good enough offer you a wage if your bonus is good enough but you then have to increase your sales to merit it and so on,ladies this company is called formula 1 and if you have one in your area and you are unfortunate to need their services be aware you are likely to be fleeced and ripped off by being told by wage hungry staff that you need replacement parts when you do not...if OH is offered a position he will be turning it down....angry nellie

Blimey - what a scam!!

MiceElf Wed 09-Jan-13 17:27:15

I hope he's reported them to the Office for Fair Trading

Grannyknot Wed 09-Jan-13 17:35:23

"discovering faults" sounds like something that belongs on Rogue Traders. Tell somebody about these jokers.

Anne58 Wed 09-Jan-13 17:36:37

That is disgraceful! Please tell me that he has (or is going to) report them to not only the OFT but Trading Standards as well. (Have a look on your Council's website for contact details)

Ariadne Wed 09-Jan-13 17:37:51

That is appalling! For once I am lost for words...

Anne58 Wed 09-Jan-13 17:41:47

Sorry so incensed, forgot to ask if the job was advertised as a commision only, self employed position? if not, then surely it must at least pay National Minimum Wage? Perhaps also report them to the DWP !

Contact Watchdog too, see how Anne Robinson winks at that one!

jeni Wed 09-Jan-13 17:43:15

Terrible! I'm sure it's illegal!

whenim64 Wed 09-Jan-13 17:44:03

Yes, agree with everyone else - these cowboys need outing!

Smoluski Wed 09-Jan-13 17:53:09

I am spitting feathers at the moment so will be taking this further, this was advertised on daily mail website and they are opening several units in several places in the east mainly it seems, have reported back to shaw trust also who are supporting us to find work ,no mention made of commission self employment just the requirements of the job,We wrongly assumed minimum wage applied, will be enquiring you can be sure if this is legal and making everyone aware just what rip off merchants they are, there where a lot of younger early 20 something's in the conveyer belt McDonald's interview probably cannot afford scruples if they desperately need work and afraid to not comply for fear of losing job one lad being interviewed at same time was 24 and had not worked since leaving school. For longer than a few months this is another example of misleading employers in the world of the job hunter angry nellie

Anne58 Wed 09-Jan-13 18:05:36

I think it may also be worth contacting the Daily Mail website and telling them that they have (albeit unwittingly) allowed a misleading advertisement.

Mishap Wed 09-Jan-13 18:10:23

I used to work for the Shaw Trust and I know they would be horrified at the idea of being involved in anything like this - I should talkk to them about it if I were you. Good luck.

Smoluski Wed 09-Jan-13 18:10:37

Yes I think you are right phoenix and the DWP as you suggested .....any luck with your job hunting have just sent off more cvs today love nelliexxx

Smoluski Wed 09-Jan-13 18:12:43

OH has been talking with his advisor as soon as we came home mishap I would really like them to investigatexxx

vampirequeen Wed 09-Jan-13 18:20:23

That is appalling.

Anne58 Wed 09-Jan-13 18:28:39

Job hunting a bit slow at present nellie/smol but thanks for asking!

Please please please do report this to anyone and everyone, if you know what I mean! When I was at Mystery Shoppers Ltd we were contacted by "The Stage" a publication much read by actors and those in the entertainment business. A company had placed an ad for mystery shoppers, which was obviously going to be of interest to those "resting" as the phrase goes.

Trouble was, it was NOT a legit compnay, but rather a money laundering type scam! The people from "The Stage" phoned us, as at first they thought the ad was connected with the company. I managed to explain how the scam worked to them, and also that it was nothing to do with any reputable company. They dropped the ad right away.

Unfortunately I was not as successful with Google, who were also running a paid for listing for a scam company. I was not able to get them to take it down, so there were probably quite a few unfortunate souls who got sucked in.

Anne58 Wed 09-Jan-13 18:29:18

PS Knowing the Daily Mail, they might even decide to make it a "shock horror" feature!

Ana Wed 09-Jan-13 18:35:50

I was just thinking that, phoenix - they'd be so mortified to have been seen to be advertising such a shower they'd probably really go to town on them! grin

Smoluski Wed 09-Jan-13 18:44:08

The company is called formula 1 and have used before many times when living in Essex, don't recall ever having had other work that "needed" doing but they are expanding quite rapidly in our area and I did wonder wether business had been good for them, well using those methods it most definitely has,I did have reservations as business seemed to be very fast growing it could also collapse just as quickly in the recession leaving OH and others out of work again, competition on their site is also quite fierce as on an industrial estate with many other garages nearby.
I think maybe they have lawyers working for them that have checked and highlighted any loop holes for them to escape through,it sounds illegal, and is probably a thin line on the side of legal,it was also explained to OH that they had to identify faults that need repairing and where expected to earn a living doing so but any outcome of legal action and you where on your own, also before any work commenced you had to examine vehicle taking photos and identifying damage on work sheets,in case any a customer accused you of damaging vehicle in that case again you would be expected to foot the bill and it would be stopped from your
"Earnings" assuming you had any in the first placexxx

harrigran Wed 09-Jan-13 19:03:44

Just googled the company, there appears to be one in most towns and cities and according to the feedback they are sharks. Repairs and parts that are not really needed with hefty bills shock

Smoluski Wed 09-Jan-13 19:09:00

And obviously not bothered by customer feedback either confused

Movedalot Wed 09-Jan-13 19:17:11

Do they have a Facebook page? You could put this on there too.

Smoluski Wed 09-Jan-13 19:20:16

Will have a lookxx

Smoluski Wed 09-Jan-13 19:25:04

Yes they have movedalot will have to rejoin Facebook though to comment so will use other routes to make people aware,.

Riverwalk Wed 09-Jan-13 22:27:42

Surely Bernie Ecclestone has the copyright on the name Formula 1?

I'm assuming that he's not involved with this bunch of cowboys!
