Why didn't the guy I know who has given a huge amount of time to the local athletics club over many years get an Olympic ticket to see someone from HIS CLUB get a gold medal - or any other ticket when the MPs got shedloads.

And little or no room for suitcases on many trains. Last time it was a case of shouting at a whole carriage of people "excuse me I need someone to move their case!!!" because there was a big pile of them. I mean to say! Outrageous!

Why, when you are being served a meal in a pub or restaurant and you say 'Thank you', does the waiter/waitress say 'No problem' when there shouldn't really be a problem because it's his/her job to serve you a meal?

I don't care any more. Very soon it won't be "my country". In fact, it hasn't been anything that I hoped it would be when I was younger or anything like I think it should be now – so not my country. Can't wait to leave this hole and never return.

merlot the last time I tried to arrange appointment with GP I was given a date 17 days later. Our surgery sees patients on a morning without appointment but you do have to sit and wait, so that is what I did. I turned up and asked to see the first available GP, not my usual GP but he examined me, found the problem and treated me. The ligament was in danger of detaching in my thigh, if I had waited 17 days I may have had a real problem.

So agree about the tv sound!

Not so sure about family on the doorstep though. I quite like 'loving by text message'. And sending little pressies via Amazon. All less tiring than cooking and tidying up behind them.

Last Sunday my DD rang me at ten to two to tell me dinner was on the table. I had forgotten, and it was an hour and ten minute journey! I blame that on too much reliance on said text messages.

Why can't I think of anything to moan about? I must be the luckiest person on the world - or maybe I'm too stupid to notice anything awful!

And I think red ink is always 'shouty' and I would avoid it for anything. Doesn't anyone remember those depressing bank statements in the dim and distant past when red denoted all the money you didn't have?

I suppose most teachers (myself included) used red pens for marking because the corrections contrasted with the pupils' work. If they had all written in red ink, we would have used a black pen. Latterly I did use a green pen which seemed a bit more friendly.

In the 1960s when I started teaching, it was common practice to use ordinary pencil not red pen and to limit one's correction. How different from my own schooldays when you sometimes got a red pen right across the whole page! I think going through the whole thing with the class and individually with the strugglers is probably the most effective and compassionate approach. But I don't expect teachers can find time for that these days as they've got the National Curriculum to teach and have to get them all through the tests at the required level.

This country has problems but so do others. I don't think I want to live anywhere else. For me the grass is as green here as over any hills and we have the best hills here
