Took delivery of small TV for the bedroom - put the TV and the stand together easily enough but was left with an adaptor type thingy (thats a technical term!) which wasn't mentioned in the list of "things in the box". Only after reading halfway through the manual did it say this "thingy" had to be used when connecting to the power supply!

Sorry, my McAfee security doesn't like the link to advert. They were 3 tiered wooden planters/raised beds. It is only an ebay page!

(single or double p ) duh!

A few years ago I ordered two of these The description did not mention self assembly (I see it does now, since I complained), they came as a pile of planks with screws, not even pre-drilled. However I got out my trusty tools and managed to do the job in an afternoon. It was very satisfying and they are still standing!
I actually enjoy putting together furniture, but I once assembled a complicated desk in the living room, for my then husband's study, only to find it wouldn't go through the door! I then had to take it apart and do most of it again. Very frustrating!
I think many people would like the option of buying items ready-made for a small fee.

There is a service of handy chaps/chappesses (single or double r?)who will assemble flat pack furniture. Try google or yellow pages. But on principle No you are not being unreasonable! It is ridiculous to expect people to do this sort of thing. When I treated us to some really nice teak garden furniture, I was delighted that although it came partially assembled (the big table) the chairs etc were assembled, the man who deliverd it also put it all together and I had to sign that I was satisfied with the finished product. The same applied to the shed which came from a firm near Worcester. Obviously DH's 2 left hands' fame and total inability to do DIY had spread there as well!! grin

Its just finding the need and filling it.

I believe I read somewhere about a couple of enterprising chaps who offered a service collecting peoples orders from Ikea and then assembling them.

What a very good idea. Can I volunteer DH as a travelling handyman, he is good at assembling things ?

Where is cheelu when you want her, she was looking for ideas for starting a business she could co-ordinate tradesman to do these types of jobs obviously a gap in the market.

I agree that it is frustrating when things come in need of assembly - we have problems with that here as I am not very strong and OH is unwell.

I do think that there should be an option for things to be delivered either assembled or with assembly included - extra cost inevitably, but it would be good to have the choice.

Aren't there any odd job men near you Barrow? There always seem to be ads in our local paper shop for that sort of thing.

Following the recent bad weather I thought it would be a good idea to have a log store closer to the house. I have been on various web sites and all of them come flat packed, some requiring 2 people to put together. Even the one company I found which will assemble the log store (for a price) don't do so in my area. It doesn't matter whether I buy a log store for £100 or £600 all require self assembly.

I had the same problem when I bought a new TV and TV stand, I had to assemble them myself.

Whilst I do have neighbours who I am sure would help, why don't these companies cater for those of us who live alone and are no good at DIY!
