Single Holiday Supplements.

The only solution I can come up with is a caravan. Four birth one price.

I too am sick of being ripped off by having to pay a supplement because I am alone so have now decided not to fall for it anymore, I shop around till I find something without a supplement and its not easy but is possible,shame on these money grabbers

I agree about the need for more decent single rooms - I have never been given a really bad room but in Harrogate I was given a room which was classed as double because it had a double bed, but only one chair and the bed had to be right up against the wall. I complained, because the two night stay was a gift from my daughter and specified a double room. Instead of moving rooms, I accepted all my meals 'on the house' for the whole of my stay.
It is worth complaining long and loudly to get, at the least, a reduction in price.
Holidaying with a friend is a very good solution, if you know somebody who is able to travel with you. I have taken my sister on holiday almost every year for the past 30 years but it didn't save me any money as I paid for absolutely everything, which she came to expect!

Why not pair up with a friend or relative to go on holiday? Company and a hge part of the cost taken care of?

trendygran Yes..this annoys me too. Greatnan I see where you're coming from, but why don't hotel's get their heads round having a few rooms with single beds. It's not only holiday companies that think the whole world goes in couples either - I get infuriated as to how many 'deals' are aimed towards couples - eg: 'buy one meal, get another free' sort of stuff. It'd be good if some of the deals, apart from offering BOGOFs, would offer 'singles' deals too - eg: rooms without supplements as 'specials' for those of us than travel on their own

I object to paying a single supplement and then being put into a tiny room at the back overlooking the bins.

Last year I went on a coach trip in UK and the single room i was given was small and dirty with worn out rusty bathroom fittings. I asked to be moved but was told there were no other rooms available. Couples on the same trip told me their rooms were clean and spacious.

There are more single travellers now and it is time the travel industry woke up to the fact and started treating us fairly

I have been taking holidays alone for about 30 years and I don't object to paying a supplement as I know that prices are fixed on the basis of two people paying for a room. They have to launder the sheets and towels and clean the room even if only one person has used it. There is no way I would share a room with a stranger.
During my 'road trip' to the Southern Lakes of New Zealand this week, I stayed in four hotels and all were priced by the room - it would have been a bonus if I had someone to share the cost but the price of the room was the same for one or two guests.

I've shared on a couple of cruises with friends. They just pay for their own extras but at least I feel I'm getting my money's worth. And to be fair, they help me,if I can't do zip or a jewellery clasp without me having to lurk in my doorway until a female steward passes!
Oh and they have to put up with my snoring.

Very unreasonable! At one point I was booking a special interest holiday with HF holidays. They were not then letting double rooms out to a single person at all, even with a single supplement if they thought they could get it double booked.

I agree it's outrageous that we are penalised for being single. I used to take pot luck on sharing on Ramblers' holidays and for the most part found myself well matched. On the last few holidays I took single rooms and really enjoyed that more, but then I was getting older! The percentage increase for singularity wasn't anything like as much as 50% - more like 10%.

On Cunard the 'single supplement' is 100%!
Which means I pay for a double cabin and double meals all for just me! I think it is very wrong. I wouldn't mind a 50% but 100%?
