someone mentioned the Timothy Spall canal trip! so......... are we up for a virtual canal trip anyone? not sure if we can manage the whole "Leeds to Liverpool" but could try, anyone wanting to abandon ship could jump off at the next stop! if we havn't tied them to the rudder grin think we may need a few barges but we could tie them all together and have a Zip line to get from one to another! there may be some of you that are not keen on water, so you could run along side grin or whatever. ..I shall leave that thought with you all grin we will need plenty of supplies wine drinks, food etc, and plenty of pubs waterholes and wee toilet stops. the wearing of "mini skirts and stilettos" will be prohibited seeing as though we will be operating the locks and may need to be in certain positions ie leaning over or pushing..... and not to cause the oglers men folk distraction whilst visiting the villages.

Do canal boats have a cocktail deck? Ohsad hope we can find plenty of naice young men to provide the eye candy muscle we need going through the locks. (Ooh ypu are awful, but I like you!!)

And I once got a livesaving badge Charley, so phoenix and I between us would ensure your survival. Just bring a change of clothing. grin

DebnCreme Thu 27-Mar-14 23:50:16

grin NanKate would a replacement hip count? It's sort of bionic! Our local canal boats have a bar Soutra and haven't we picked up some firemen and policemen on other jaunts, perhaps they would 'help us out'

We haven't been on water, have we? Or did anyone fall in the sea on Blackpool? Bit of a blur....

glammanana Fri 28-Mar-14 08:32:12

Biker sounds good to me I am not far from Leeds-Liverpool Canal I can hop on at Ellesmere Port or Port Sunlight we can always ask the crew from the Liverpool ferries if they fancy helping us out when we come to the lock gates they seem a helpful bunch of blokes grin

This is a fab idea, I live beside the Caladonian Canal and some of the most challenging locks in the country. So how about a party at my house and then a chug down the canal to Loch Ness to look for Nessie.
I suppose it will depend on the amount of alcohol consumed whether the monster will get out of his hiding place.

Ley me know when you have decided the flag design and I shall make it right away. How many flags exactly ? Just one for the boat or one each to wave at all those bemused passers-by ? Could be useful too for finding those who have fallen overboard due to being a bit wobbly on their feet for some reason.

ninathenana Fri 28-Mar-14 09:12:45

Yey ! I love boats. Please can we be towed by a horse as they are another love of mine. I will act as groom provided it gets me out of lock duties.

Lona Fri 28-Mar-14 09:59:34

As an experienced canal boat steererer ( wine hic) I can assure you all that several large alcoholic drinks are an absolute neccessity for straight steerering!
The scrapes along the side of the boat add to the character and charm wink

POGS Fri 28-Mar-14 10:02:41

I don't know about a cocktail deck.

Then again there is 'Poopdeck'. grin

bikergran Fri 28-Mar-14 10:49:28

mollie I did ponder as to the catorgary to put it in but hey ho! smile

bikergran Fri 28-Mar-14 10:52:19

ok just popped in for a quick head count (GS off ill so carry on without me arranging) smile sounds like your all desperate eager to get away grin of course we must remember!!! there will be the "Water Police" about and they are not! as tolerant as the Pendle Hill/Halloween Police! confused bfn

NanKate Fri 28-Mar-14 11:24:08

Yes DebnCreme a hip replacement is fine, but no enhanced boobs as they could make the boat lopsided .grin

glammanana Fri 28-Mar-14 11:32:54

We could put the enhanced boobs to use as extra bouyancy aids though NanKate and use in conjuction with our life jackets, can my jacket be pink please as I like girly colours orange does not suit my colouring grin

bikergran Fri 28-Mar-14 12:05:41

yes yes! anyone with "enhanced boobs" will come in handy as you will have your own buoyancy hee hee (only joking) sounds like your all getting organised smile I have chartered and extra long Barge, it has has an extention built on, so we will all be together smile no chance of anyone tipping over the edge, unfortunately some of the local hostelries have heard about our previous parties and have refused to accommodate us!! huh! as we travel on our journey you may see the odd banner no GNettters allowed (it seems we have a reputation) ! can't think why grin so there will be a supply of rotten eggs to throw at the Landlord/lady as we pass grin although at a speed limit of 4mph we won'e be able to make a hasty getaway, therefore I am providing paddles to aid our retreat.

bikergran Fri 28-Mar-14 12:07:20

Ariadne yes you are right! I did take my inflatable friends to the beach one time..but one of them floated out to sea sad

bikergran Fri 28-Mar-14 12:12:58

there was an old chap that I spoke to, did ask if we would like him to accompany us to make sure we were following procedure, he said he was very adaptable and will to do anything grin but I declined his offer when I saw the glint in his gold tooth (yes his one tooth)! and his beer belly was hanging out, but it was when he turned around and I saw his thong! that I knew I had made the right decision..confused

AlieOxon Fri 28-Mar-14 12:22:10

I think I might lay off the vodka jellies this time......

There's always retsina! (Back to the 70s...)

ninathenana Fri 28-Mar-14 12:40:40

I have visions of the 'enhanced boob' brigade hanging over the sides to replace the car tyres as buffers. Would be painful I know but it made me chuckle.

Wouldn't it be good if the canal side hostelries had a facility to 'take on board' alcohol instead of water. You can flush a loo with alcohol......can't you??

Elegran Fri 28-Mar-14 13:16:15

The loo gets plenty of recycled alcohol. Would that do?

DebnCreme Fri 28-Mar-14 13:22:34

grin grin grin. Have we set a date yet? Sadly my boobs don't need enhancing sad

AlieOxon Fri 28-Mar-14 13:35:30

Will the fish get pissed?

NanKate Fri 28-Mar-14 16:40:18

I'm persuaded enhanced boobs are in.
Thongs are banned.
Big knickers are de rigeur.

Can we postpone the trip for a week as I am kna....ed from looking after the GSs and I have caught their colds.

As Mrs T might have said 'You sail if you want, but NanKate is not for boating'.

Mr T would have said 'where's the party? '

The Queen Mum would have said 'Mine's a gin and Dubonnet'.

NanKate Fri 28-Mar-14 16:41:17

Allie I think the fish will taste especially good when we cook them.

AlieOxon Fri 28-Mar-14 17:40:33

Marinated, yes.
