adverts to be banned

This could be a stand-alone section I fear. I am very angry with NatWest the bank for their latest advert featuring a large picture of a lovely little girl holding a huge ice-cream covered with syrup and sugar etc..Is this in line with all the health recommendations and the obesity problem ? of course not. We do not need this type of adverts, it is like advertising tobacco or alcohol, should be banned. What do you think ?

Iam64 Fri 25-Apr-14 09:12:30

If I was banning anything, it'd be those adverts for gambling that come on during any sports type tv show. And, even gambling adverts that come on at any time.

I hate all ads......manipulations to make you want what you didn't want before.....consumption has to grow, or the system will collapse!

AlieOxon Fri 25-Apr-14 09:31:10

....and they interrupt the programmes so noone has a concentration span of more than 15 minutes.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 25-Apr-14 09:34:07

is it this one?

I think it's very sweet.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 25-Apr-14 09:35:13

quite a nice story behind it too

I agree with you jocelyne
I think sugar is at least as harmful as alcohol, and possibly even tobacco, and we wouldn't encourage children smoke and drink.
Just my personal view of course.

I'm sure her mum is very proud of her but I'd rather ban yucky child actors.

Doesn't everyone love a 99 flake? grin

AlieOxon Fri 25-Apr-14 11:37:44

No

Penstemmon Fri 25-Apr-14 11:57:38

I can think of many adverts I find either distasteful, annoying and/or promoting things I disagree with!

I am less upset by the image of a child having a 'treat' than the adverts for sugar laden brakfast cereals!

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 25-Apr-14 11:59:59

You can' t take ice cream away from kids!

GillT57 Fri 25-Apr-14 13:46:45

Danger here of losing sense of perspective, seeing a child with an ice cream is not going to make everyone rush out to buy one and subsequently become obese, any more than seeing a black horse running (Lloyds Bank) is going to make everyone rush out to book riding lessons.

Cressida Fri 25-Apr-14 13:57:25

I think it fits with the idea of Mum being 'magic' If Mum regularly bought ice creams the child wouldn't regard it as 'magic'.

Aka Fri 25-Apr-14 14:46:55

Sugar as bad as alcohol and tobacco?

Next we'll have the police breathalysing us for ice cream and it being banned in public places for fear of secondary ice cream inhalation hmm

Janea is a dentist, and as such should be allowed to tell us all off for eating too much icecream. The girl said she didn't want any more icecream after being made to eat too many for the photoshoot, so some good may have come out of it.
On a different point, do your grandchildren talk at that tempo? I'd be telling mine to hurry up and get on with it.
A Saatchi advert, eh?

petra Fri 25-Apr-14 15:12:05

I've got a couple of hair shirts here if you would like them.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 25-Apr-14 15:13:03

She is supposed to be in musing mode! About her mummy being magic. grin

Ana Fri 25-Apr-14 15:13:07

I don't see why anyone should be 'allowed to tell us all off'! hmm
I didn't get the impression Jane was talking about dental health, anyway...

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 25-Apr-14 15:14:37

I hate the saying "get a life". Unpleasant put down.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 25-Apr-14 15:17:40

Gransnet should not have any recipes for cakes.

Norty Gransnet! shock

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 25-Apr-14 15:18:23

Not really! Keep the recipes coming!

rosesarered Fri 25-Apr-14 15:19:06

I have never heard anything so ridiculous as worrying about an ad with a child eating an ice cream in it.My first thought was; is it April 1st again?
So,Jocelyn I think you are on your own here, and maybe it IS a joke hey?

durhamjen Fri 25-Apr-14 15:19:23

Sorry, Janea, I was trying to stick up for you. Not allowed to have a personal view. I agree, jingle, re "get a life". However, I may have jinxed you now!
