Worse that shop lifting

I have just returned from shopping in Boots where I watched a customer apply mascara then return the item to the shelf before moving on to try out other products. I eventually found an assistant to report it to and was pathetically told " lots of people do that, there is nothing we can do about it". The shop is full of cctv cameras does anybody look at these. I will only buy such products in future if they are sealed.

I only buy sealed products anyway !

Aspen, with a bit of luck she'll get a nice case of conjunctivitis!
And yes, on a Saturday morning most Boots are full of girls topping up their make-up, its been going on for ages and is yet another reason for not going there. Buying sealed cosmetics is surely what everyone does anyway?

Aka Sat 10-May-14 16:16:57

Of course they can do something about it. Pathetic excuse.

Have also seen people going around Tesco's with children and feeding them cakes, biscuits and crisps and throwing the wrappers away-also one very large lady who spends quite a bit of time by the cakes...but openign cosmetics and using them, that is awful.

eeeeuuuwww

I had a Saturday job in Boots in Stockport in 1966, and it was the staff who were trying the stuff out grin

Ana Sat 10-May-14 16:45:13

Well, to be fair, they do have 'testers' on display - I've often seen women trying them out in Boots! I'd only ever buy sealed products, too.

Grannyknot Sat 10-May-14 16:52:44

Really?! [shocked] I must be more careful about buying only sealed stuff.

Grannyknot Sat 10-May-14 16:53:16

Or even shock

DebnCreme Sat 10-May-14 17:26:15

Me too jane but I worked in a Boots in Devon. It was mainly the staff but as I could not wear makeup I made full use of the perfume testers smile

Nonu Sat 10-May-14 17:34:05

ANA only trouble is in our local Boots and Superdrug , a lot of the "Testers " get "nicked".

<gnash teeth>

rosequartz Sat 10-May-14 17:36:47

shock and yuck!

I will remember that in future.

HildaW Sat 10-May-14 18:17:21

I too worked in Boots....in the early 70s as a Saturday girl......back when there were separate departments. I was 'Surgical' STs, loo roll and Complan, looked up in awe at the ladies on the Cosmetics, they were so glamorous.

BeeWitch Sat 10-May-14 18:34:00

Urgh Aspen - that is beyond the pale. I was nearly buying a cream eyeshadow from Boots, then on closer inspection I saw it had a dirty great finger print shock where someone had 'tested' it to see if the colour suited her or him. Blegh . Now I always wear my glasses when buying makeup. Oh, and buy only sealed stuff.

Flowerofthewest Sat 10-May-14 18:58:06

A woman I knew confessed to me that she used to undo the jar of, say, chutney, sauce, jam etc and dip her finger in to see if she liked it. If not she would put it back on the shelf. Yuk!!!

Ana Sat 10-May-14 18:59:54

Now that really is revolting! angry

Flowerofthewest Sat 10-May-14 19:06:04

Isn't it just and I told her so. She thought it was funny.

granjura Sat 10-May-14 19:13:11

I am fussy about apples and often disappointed. So I will pick one and have a chunk of it- if I like it, I'll buy 5 or 6, including the one with a bite out of it. Cashiers always look in horror and say 'one of them has been bitten' and I own up. If I don't like it, I'll bag just the one, and pay for it, of course.

harrigran Sat 10-May-14 20:55:36

Are there any depths people will not stoop to ? what revolting habits angry

bikergran Sat 10-May-14 21:10:46

I will never use the sauce bottles/or anything that has been opened in cafes etc...I only use sealed sugar/sauces etc.

noodles Sat 10-May-14 22:10:17

I won't buy unwrapped bread or rolls.

Greenfinch Sat 10-May-14 22:24:16

And I won't buy any salad from open salad bars in supermarkets or unwrapped food in self -service restaurants.. I just imagine someone sneezing all over it. Having said that you never know what goes on behind the scenes whenever you buy any food. It doesn't pay to worry too much..

noodles Sat 10-May-14 22:35:35

Greenfinch Me to. My husband thinks I'm just too fussy, but I feel really queasy about people sneezing over, or touching food items with unwashed hands. Eugh.

Ana Sat 10-May-14 22:40:02

As you say, Greenfinch, you never know what goes on behind the scenes - in a restaurant kitchen, for example...hmm
