Schools shut, Accident and Emergency centres shut, traffic chaos, no expense spared. The lives of local people disrupted!
Willl there be anything positive to come out of this apart from buying more weapons?
Whatever happened to video conferencing?

If anyone has any more positive thoughts please let me know.

ps I am not saying that buying weapons is positive before anyone picks me up on my semantics. But apparently the Government may think it is positive.

I live just a couple of miles from Bristol airport and yesterday saw 4 motorcycle police from WALES driving through the village - first time I have seen a police officer come through in years! (before anyone asks I know they were from Wales because the word "Police" was written in English and Welsh) grin

We were in Cardiff last week visiting DD, DS and families and it took twice as long to get anywhere. They were complaining at how early everything was blocked off and made your point about video conferencing, rosequartz. Think how much money we would save! Also taxi drivers and local tradespeople were complaining at loss of business.
We can only hope for some positive outcome to the talks, but I'm not optimistic!

I just hope the heddlu don't close one or both of the Severn bridges (I wouldn't put it past them) as we have visitors arriving this weekend.

And it's not Michelle and Barack, they said they preferred somewhere a bit more up-market grin
The cheek of it, I cleaned especially!

I'm sure it looks beautiful, rosequartz, they don't know what they're missing!

I think the UK are in the chair of NATO at the moment so the summit would be held in one of the 4 UK countries.

Wales was chosen and I think that was a good thing. There is always the talk that the UK government is all about England, by some, so I think this government has tried to spread these type summits over all of the 4 nations over the last few years.

I think President Obama will be there this evening rose quartz, so get your best China out he might drop in, if you ask him nicely. smile

I should have said that I agree it must be a bit of b----r getting around but now Wales is known all over the world so it might get a few more visitors spending their pennies.

I agree rosequartz.

nannyfran thank you very much.
Must weed the garden, though, just in case ....
shampoo the carpet ...
Perhaps it will bring some cash into Wales with the publicity!
I do hope they don't want to go shopping in Newport, half of it has disappeared (re-development or something).

Someone mentioned on another thread that when it was in Ireland they held it on an island so that the general public wasn't disrupted too much.

9,500 police officers have been drafted in apparently. Where did they find them all?

I would like to find out afterwards what all this has achieved.

Try living in Brussels, the city goes into lock-down about 4 times a year, as i said on a previous thread we could not even get in or out of our house earlier this year, had to call the police to move the high heid yins 'drivers' out of the way.
Know of people who have bee
n herded into shops to be off the pavements when Obama was just being driven along the road.
Oh and the Americans do not pick up the tab, your taxes will be paying for all the extra policing and security.
When we also had the African Summit here as well as Obama and Co, a freind the Malawian Ambassador told me that the S.A. Ambassador had insisted they all had the same security as Obama.
Buses re-routed, no parking, and very rude 'security' guards.
the Metros only stopping at certain stops, and I.D. cards checked everywhere.
nightmare
Good luck nice to get a break

felice I feel for you!

Is it because the world is a more dangerous place, is it because all these leaders are so much more 'important' than they were years ago or is it because they all spend such a lot of time travelling around the world for various 'summits'?

How much taxpayers money are they spending and how many greenhouse gases are they producing?

How much will the G20 summit in Australia contribute to the 'global warming' they are allegedly trying to combat in their quest to improve people's lives?
