AIBU

to think it's remarkable how little traffic there is on the AIBU board here compared to mumsnet...

Mumsnet refugee here, having a browse to while away a spot of insomnia. It's just struck me as now noticeable that the "am I being unreasonable?" board has very few threads that have been added to in the last 48 hours.

On mumsnet AIBU is one of the busiest parts of the site, loads of threads started for people to express their emotions on their latest frustration in their lives, loads of people willing to weigh in and give their advice and opinions and/or tell the op to woman-up and stop being a drama queen.

So, do gransnetters have fewer difficult situations in their lives to deal with than mumsnetters? Or do they have fewer doubts about whether they are being unreasonable? Or are they just less willing to share their frustrations with the forum?

Ooh ariadne that sounds nice. What's the occasion? smile

I think it's one of the perks of old age to be unreasonable from time to time, after a lifetime of keeping the peace! We still have as many frustrations and problems, but different ones and perhaps more time to calm down as there are no children demanding our immediate attention.
I'm very envious, Ariadne, it sounds lovely. Have a good evening.

Whenever I pop over to Mumsnet to see what the young ones are up to, I always head straight for AIBU because it is so entertaining and lively.

Lovely to "meet" you all! Yes, I just know when I am being unreasonable (doesn't stop me, though...)

I think the posts on here that can be the most confrontational tend to be on politics, newspapers, in fact issues that challenge people's deeply held beliefs.

(I am resting quietly in a beautiful hotel in a Devon recovering from last night's party preparing for food, drink and dancing tonight.) smile

Much better to carry on feeling hard done by and misunderstood

grin

no matter how crazy, unreasonable and hard-to-deal-with your own family is being, you can usually find some perspective by seeing how lucky you are compared to some!

I went through a phase of watching Jeremy Kyle (the dark overlord of daytime tv) for those very reasons.

urgh. that I AM... not I'm am... obviously typing one handed with coffee in the other hand does not work well for me hmm

heavenknows Sat 11-Oct-14 14:10:21

I have a pretty good idea whether or not I'm being unreasonable. And someone telling me on AIBU that I'm am, in fact, being unreasonable is not likely to change my attitude anyway. grin

So I guess I don't see the point.

and of course we are not fixated by facebook (own up if you are smile) and the business of befriending, unfriending, and the rest.
we managed quite well before social media and its hangups but I guess that is an age thing.

I do think MN-AIBU could do with less prominence. It's a magnet for goaders and trolls and folk who like a good pile on. And people assume that it sets the tone for the entire site

Surely you don't need to have a certain amount of life experience to know when you're being a complete prat? I think issues that are borderline/in need of more tact and diplomacy would be better off on chat, anyway.

To use a very worn-out cliche... we've been there, done it,bought the T-shirt. Our unreasonables are probably not as dire or life destroying as we might have seen them 30 odd years ago. Things still irritate me...like mad...so don't get me started on the mangling of the English language for example, but I guess we just just tend to roll with life as we foresee the end of it... not that any of us intend to go for years yetwink.

enormouse Sat 11-Oct-14 13:10:13

MN aibu really isn't my cup of tea. I'm often just a lurker and harsh though it can be, I'm always cheered by the regulars who make a stand for common sense and reasonableness. Maryz, chipping, AF and the rest.

It's definitely very Zen and chilled out over here. I like it.

SueDoku Sat 11-Oct-14 12:01:26

At this age, we (as a group) have fewer irritants... fewer PIL (due to the passage of time), fewer DC living at home, less school dramas (no more school runs - Yay..!) and these make up a good chunk of the threads on AIBU over on MN.
As a pp said, sometimes, you can feel hard done by - and then you read a few posts from people in much worst situations than you, and suddenly feel all cheerful about your own life grin

nightowl there are lots of lovely bits of MN, it's not all 'AIBU'. There are quite a few 'irritating widgets' over there, but lots of nice people too smile

nina you're in grin (I'd drop the nana if you come over though!)

ninathenana Sat 11-Oct-14 11:37:32

Ooops ! How did that happen.

ninathenana Sat 11-Oct-14 11:36:37

Do we have to go before the MN panel, or can we deem ourselves as nice enough ???

grin grin

ninathenana Sat 11-Oct-14 11:34:50

Do we get voted over by a panel or do we deem ourselves as nice ? grin grin

TrillianAstra Sat 11-Oct-14 11:22:31

Obviously it's only the nice ones who have come over wink

nightowl Sat 11-Oct-14 11:06:50

I agree with Anya, I'd like you to stay as well.

As for venturing on to MN, I'm not brave enough. I'm scared of DD so a whole forum of you shock

Or AIBU? wink

ChippingIn Sat 11-Oct-14 11:02:20

But it's lovely of you to say we are 'refreshing' and you'd like us to stay. Well, you'd like them to stay anyway - me probably not so much!! grin

ChippingIn Sat 11-Oct-14 11:01:37
