Hey it's nearly Christmas. Be nice. I have Grandchildren living in Switzerland and they and their friends know very clearly what they want. And the tv is awful so they don't have it but somehow they all know what the latest desirable rubbish is.a Furby!! and a remote controlled helicopter are on the list(vetoed by the parents as Furbys? Furbies are repulsive and anything remote controlled and flying when you don't have a garden is a no no)

Had an event today with lots of British and USA young expat parents- they all agreed that not having the constant advertising, and Christmas beginning with Advent only- is a pure and sheer blessing.

I can't agree with you papaoscar. I remember my Grandparents berating my Parents for spoiling me because I was given, age 6, a watch for Christmas. Probably viewed as a Christmas frenzy by my Victorian Grandparents.

Christmas is always a special time for our family.

Some people buy things, to make themselves feel better about their circumstances, whether they are rich or poor.

GD aged 5 would like just about every other item shown on adverts. I reminded her yesterday, I would like doesn't of course mean she will receive everything she would like. Both GDs have given me the wish list I always ask for.

DD does the same and both girls now know the lists are complete and letters have been sent to Santa so there is no point asking for anymore although they are still seeing many adverts and enjoying them.

Some people like adverts, some don't. Advertising has always been big business and people who actually buy into all the hype will do so whatever time of year it is so taking on advertising is pretty low on my list of concerns.
