To expect computers to work?

I have computer rage!!! Does anyone else get this?

I am trying to get stuck into a huge design job with a deadline. I have all the information needed to complete it, but....
- my laptop won't allow me to design it in Photoshop as big white spaces appear from nowhere.
- putting all the info on a stick and transferring to another computer will not work as two other computers will not recognise the stick's existence!
- I am in a last ditch attempt on another computer!

Add in the fact that I can only do it in 30 minute bursts because the screen gives me migraine, then I think my lack of cool, calm and collected is to be understood!

GRRR !!! angry

Oh I so sympathise Mishap , I have printer rage my perfectly working printer has decided that it won't print anything 'black', I've put in new cartridges but it either tells me my black ink is low and I need a new cartridge or if it actually decides to print a page all the black text is missing, we've been puzzling this for a week now and tried everything and I need to print out boarding passes sooner rather than later... angry

I hope you manage to solve the problem , it looks likely I'll be buying yet another printer in the next couple of days.

I have dead printers galore - five at the last count. To be fair, one died in a lightning strike...

I currently have a simple Canon iP 2702 and it's excellent. No more HP or Epson for me...

Computer rage? Frequently! Like when my computer suddenly freezes, will not respond to ctrl, alt, del, and I have to press the off button, then cancel 'shut down', when the computer wakes up with the programme working and denying it has had a problem, grrrrr!

I am constantly threatening to throw ours out of the window.

Aaghhh - my iPad. It does what Apple wants it to do, not what I want it to do.
I took a photo on it yesterday - it was dreadful, but I cannot delete it !!
The stupid thing won't let me. it is so frustrating I want to throw if in the bin.

Computer says No (as in the Little Britain sketch)

Can you email the document to yourself as a Word document and then work on it?

ninathenana Sat 13-Jun-15 15:29:22

If a smart phone counts as a computer then YES !
Windows informed me it needed to update yesterday. Now despite it being fully charged the =/#< won't turn on.
Not the first time this has happened.

The Apple Store advised me to 'reboot' my mini iPad by holding down the start button (top right of frame) and the button in the middle of the bottom frame together. It won't wipe off anything you've saved but it 'cleans up' the operating systems.
Seems to work.

Can you google to see if can do anything similar with a smartphone?

ninathenana Sat 13-Jun-15 17:36:49

I've googled previously and found nothing. I've rung the help line and spoken to a lad who's other job is being a chocolate fire guard grin I ended up traveling 20 miles to the nearest EE phone shop where a very helpful young lady connected it to a laptop and sorted it, but I don't know what she did sad

Tanith have you cleaned the printer heads?

sara4 Sat 13-Jun-15 22:32:45

My laptop goes 'rogue' on me every now and again. Part way through a long email the text will suddenly disappear, or it will turn blue (high lighted) and nothing will move. The only way I can do anything is to close down, reboot and then it is all smiles . But sometimes it will send the half finished email. It is very frustrating. Oh, where is the spell check on for where we are typing the messages?

tanith Sat 13-Jun-15 23:05:07

Thanks Cressida but yes we've cleaned the printer heads several times..

I have threatened this one that if it crashes ONE MORE TIME I will put it's aeronautical abilities via the home office window. angry

If in doubt reboot! - that's my motto. But not really a possibility in the middle of a big job, when it goes wrong every few minutes!

I eventually managed to get the whole thing working on another computer - and managed two pages out of 16 - so still a way to go!

I am always surprised when people try to reassure you that planes running by computer, hospital equipment, driverless cars etc. are safe - looking at the number of times my computer crashes or malfunctions, I remain unconvinced! Rebooting in mid air sounds fraught with hazard to me!

Nelliemoser Sun 14-Jun-15 09:54:08

The air frequently goes very very blue in my house in relation to computer and printer related incidents.

It may be because we forget how things used to be before computers and expect them to be always there being infallible.
