....to find this disgusting

As I have said before I don't have children so tend not to post on anything to do with them (not been there so can't really comment). However, today I saw something I need to rant about.

I had been to visit a friend and stopped at a supermarket I don't normally use. While waiting in the queue I looked through the window and saw a little girl of around 6 crouching in the gutter of the car park just outside the door - I then realised she was having a poo shock. Now I know sometimes when children have to go they REALLY have to go but I think the mother could have just picked her up and carried her into the supermarket toilets (which were no more than a few feet inside the door). The mother was just standing there smoking a cigarette making no attempt to give the poor child any kind of privacy - people were walking in and out of the shop the whole time. When she had finished they both walked away, got into a car and drove off. When I was finally being served I told the assistant what I had seen but she merely shrugged and said that at least this time it was a child! (Won't be visiting that supermarket again)

That is disgusting.

I won't say what I think the supermarket staff member could be referring too as I could be wrong.

I think your right Pogs

I've been with DGS when we've had to let him have what DD calls 'a country wee' grin but at 6 the child is old enough to hang on to it and there's a difference between a wee in a bush and this. Disgusting is the word.

Gross.

Luckygirl Sat 22-Aug-15 15:28:14

My DGC are always weeing on grass when we are out - we live in the country; but outside a supermarket!? - I don't think so.

Nelliemoser Sat 22-Aug-15 15:34:51

Very wrong! A pee behind a bush for a little one may be.

Indinana Sat 22-Aug-15 17:10:34

That is absolutely disgusting, sunseeker. You are definitely not being unreasonable!
I was up a ladder by the window in our front bedroom once when I saw a car pull up on the opposite side of the road, and a fellow got his daughter out - she looked about 4 or 5 - and carried her across the road to our property. I was waiting for a knock on the door, but nothing happened. I looked a bit more closely and could see he'd taken her onto our property, just in front of our side gate, and was letting her pee there. I was so angry I rushed downstairs and caught him as he was pulling her knickers up. I'm afraid I rather lost the plot, telling him this was my property, not a public lavatory and was he going to come back with a bucket of water and disinfectant? He did at least have the grace to look embarrassed and by the time I got out there with a bucket of water he had actually come back and offered to clean up. I told him to get out of my sight angry. (I've often since felt guilty about how the poor little girl must have felt with this harridan coming down and screaming at her daddy. She's probably grown up with a terror of going to the loo blush)

That's really bad... poor child, if she is not being taught/taken inside to the bathrooms, what other social graces will be missed in her upbringing?

pompa Sat 22-Aug-15 18:51:38

Not pleasant , but hardly a major crime.

sunseeker Sat 22-Aug-15 18:51:59

I can understand children having a pee behind a bush when necessary, like I said I know when children have to go they have to go, but this was in the open with no privacy for the poor girl. I was also a bit concerned because there are plenty of weirdos out there who would get a thrill from the sight of a 6 year old girl with her knickers round her ankles. I couldn't understand how people seemed quite at ease walking past whilst this was going on.

Notso Sat 22-Aug-15 20:27:55

Tricky sometimes isn't it? If anyone visited Windsor bus station in the early 1970's and found a poo wrapped up in a waste bin and half washed away skid marks in the hand wash basin, please accept my apologies. There really was absolutely no alternative for my 5 year old. blush

No need to do this at a supermarket though.

Ana Sat 22-Aug-15 20:58:17

And especially not on when the mother must have known there were toilets in the supermarket. I hope she wiped the poor child's bum before bundling her into the car...

Always best to make it to a loo!

A day after arriving in Australia some friends took us to see their country property. It was a long drive and Terry had to get out for a pee in the bush. He walked behind a tree and saw a log to pee on - except halfway though he discovered it wasn't a log - it was a very pissed off (literally) brown snake.

As it happened, he didn't know brown snakes were poisonous back then, so he was able to finish as the snake took off away from him.

Back in the car he found out what a lucky escape he'd had.

We live in an end terraced house. At the back of our row is a narrow street with houses just along one side facing our backs. The end house opposite ours has a narrow passage down the side, as has ours, and twice my daughter and I have seen strange cars come down and stop there, and young men get out to have a wee against the side wall of said house. Also, a few weeks ago, my daughter had taken me, in our car, to the hospital, parking hers outside the front of our house. When we arrived back, there was a man, about 50, seemed to be looking at her car, walking round it. When he saw us he walked away down the passage, reappearing shortly and walking off. When we turned into the passage, we saw that he`d had a wee up against our side wall, the dirty sod.

Possibly there was a queue in the supermarket loo and the child has bowel problem

thatbags Sun 23-Aug-15 09:53:52

It isn't always best to make it to a loo. Compost heaps benefit from being pissed on, especially if it is male piss. Just saying.

Poor little soul. No-one asks for the parent they are landed with.

Old wives tale was that all Scottish tweed was regularly p....d on to make it mothproof. I think this was before it was woven IYSWIM.

jollyg Sun 23-Aug-15 11:07:12

Tweed was steeped in urine to set the natural dyes.

OH tells that his dad got the boys to pee on the lawn to make it green.

Obviously none of you have been to India where the men regularly relieve themselves in a gutter...... It smells. Women too have the ability to pee wearing a sari, quite an achievement.

In India there are many more mobile phones than toilets, its their priorities

Even if your 'theory' is correct why have a fag and simply drive off leaving the poo for someone else to have to clear up.?

No bum wipe, no privacy, no consideration to other shoppers, no consideration to the store etc. etc. I might have a harsher view of the mother in other aspects of her connection with the child too but then I could be rightly accused of having a 'theory'

Sorry it is the case there are some people and cultures too who have no social boundaries as most of us expect from others, especially in public. angry

Blue22 Sun 23-Aug-15 12:30:57

I'm afraid I water the countryside around me on a regular basis. I'm often out with my dog and will very discreetly do a pee into a hedge . Sometimes I just HAVE to.
But my pockets are full of doggy poo bags I clean up after her , so why did the mother of this poor child not do the same. There are fines for dogs messing in the street.
Especially so close to a public loo. Nowt so queer as folk .

Greyduster Sun 23-Aug-15 13:55:22

As I often spend a whole day fishing upland reservoirs miles away from comfort stops, peeing in the woods is a necessity. Although my bladder control ain't bad, I usually have to give in after about four or five hours. Fortunately there is usually no-one around but me. I have never yet had to do anything other than pee! Going back to the original post, we were once on a very long beach with GS, then six, when he needed to poo and absolutely couldn't wait. He would never have made it back to the car park and toilets, so we did the doggie bag trick and carried it back with us to dispose of appropriately. DH suggested burying it in the sand and DD gave him a look as if he'd suggested mugging old ladies!

dorsetpennt Sun 23-Aug-15 14:02:00

Well to top this. Coming home from an evening at the local cinema a young woman in her twenties was having a wee in a shop doorway, there are perfectly clean public roundabout twenty feet away.

etheltbags1 Sun 23-Aug-15 20:17:04

yes I agree disgusting but if the child was desperate and the loos busy why didn't the mother find a quiet place behind the supermarket or at least stood nearby to hide the child a bit. goodness knows what the little one thought (does she do this in t he school playground I wonder).
