We have not got a profile page

We cant edit.

We dont have a posting list, [who posts what where] available on many other sites.

GN entices with books, freebies from the publishers.

Sadly we are being bought for a mess of potage.

Owners dont give a tuppenny toss what we do as long as their coffers are filled, and not a sweary word from me YET

Ana Tue 10-Nov-15 13:02:31

I don't know about going on strike (who would notice?!) but I do wish they'd keep the Discussions of the Day list up to date. How long has that Weevils 'joke' been up there...? hmm

Luckygirl Tue 10-Nov-15 13:39:57

Some folks are never satisfied! grin

kittylester Tue 10-Nov-15 13:43:12

I'm not going on strike but I agree with most of your points jollyg.

We have asked loads of times for reinstatement of the profile page and who posted last. Most of us don't like the daily email thingy either.

I also find it irritating that 'professionals' win lots of prizes.

loopylou Tue 10-Nov-15 14:01:36

confused

Who are the professionals winning all the prizes ?

I'm certainly not ^a professional in my GN life but I've been very lucky to have won several books, the first time ever in my life.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 10-Nov-15 14:07:50

I think they should give us an honest answer as to why the profiles arenot back. Are we really the poor relations of the Other Place, and therefore can have no attention from a Tech?

Do you mean people who make a big thing out of searching the web for competitions kitty? I agree with you. But, of course, once someone - anyone - has signed up to GN, that's another one to add to the number of members. Which in trun encourages advertisers.

I guess we have to accept it is a business. They don't really do it for the love of older people.

Kerching!

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 10-Nov-15 14:08:39

You should have put this under Site Stuff jollyg. They read that.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 10-Nov-15 14:09:26

Definitely go back to the weekly email. I unsubscribed from this 'spam' stuff.

janeainsworth Tue 10-Nov-15 14:11:42

Loupy Who are the professionals winning all the prizes ?

People who only enter the competitions and never contribute on the threads.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 10-Nov-15 14:16:05

Some people trawl the net to find competitions to enter. And then probably sell the stuff on ebay. (have you read my post jane? hmmwink

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 10-Nov-15 14:44:50

In answer to your questions:

The honest answer as to why the profiles aren't back is that it required a huge amount of tech work and, as you can imagine, there are many other things that do too to keep the site running. But we have been assured that they should be back next week some time. We will keep you posted.

The Dods was a blip that's now been fixed.

Only registered members of Gransnet can win prizes - don't forget there are people who may have been members for years who rarely post for one reason or another.

We offer books and other prizes because we know that's what people like. No one is obliged to sign up for a competition/book club if they don't appreciate a free gift grin

We are a very small team who work very long hours to keep the site running. But we are human so sometimes something (a weevil or two) will slip through the net.

And we do care. A lot.

I think I need some cupcake...

jollyg Tue 10-Nov-15 14:48:03

Methinks I am a tad naiive.

Thanks for elucidation Jingl.

I am an irregular poster.

jollyg Tue 10-Nov-15 14:52:02

Cari

There aint no such thing as a free gift....... no naiivity here now.

Its patronising to be told that. Sod the care bit, keeps the staff paid

Cross post

Lona Tue 10-Nov-15 15:03:25

Or get more staff!
Don't get rid of the cupcake though!

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 10-Nov-15 15:08:39

Of course you are entitled to your opinion - but you are absolutely wrong about the not caring bit.

And there is indeed such a thing as a free gift. Other than book club - where people get a book in return for contributing to the thread (that's how a book club works after all. It's all about reading then discussing) - there is no obligation for anyone who wins a book/prize to do anything other than enjoy it.

stillhere Tue 10-Nov-15 15:19:16

I won a book a couple of weeks ago, and I am not new and post lots! I must have won at least four books over the past three years, and once won a whole box of them just before Christmas, which was excellent timing as I was broke. I can't say I enter all the competitions, half the time I forget to even look at them, but I do admit to being pleased when a name I recognise wins.

Recently I had cause to be very thankful that the profiles were down, I shall be far more cautious once they return. It appears that a few people I know do not like to be in photos on here, and do not like to be mentioned, or to have their friends mentioned. They must be a lot nosier than I am.

loopylou Tue 10-Nov-15 15:20:28

Thank you Cari, thankless job isn't it? There's no pleasing some folk....hmm

I appreciate just what damned hard work your job must be, you deserve all the cupcake, brew, wine and flowers , I couldn't do it I'd lose my rag so thank you all very much.

Doesn't bother me if my profile's down, at least I can get on and enjoy GN regardless smile

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 10-Nov-15 15:21:41

grin thank you!

ffinnochio Tue 10-Nov-15 15:29:14

Likewise.

KatyK Tue 10-Nov-15 15:32:56

I agree loopylou I am not a 'professional' and am a regular poster but I have won one of those tablet thingies and a lovely book.

You don't pay anything to be on Gransnet

Nobody forces you to remain a member

Editing is a nice luxury but checking for oneself is perfectly possible

Your attitude to poor old GNHQ reminds me of the chutzpah of the person who murdered his parents and the pleaded for mercy because he was a orphan.

Bottom line is, , it's free, it's voluntary, what is your problem?

(Answers on one side of a sheet of A4)

POGS Tue 10-Nov-15 15:34:24

I don't want to cause an argument but I did win a DVD in a competition once , admittedly about 3 years ago, never the less it was free. Also a family ticket for free entry to a National Trust property this year.

I have also had courteous responses and help from HQ when I was wrongly accused of something and a thread turned nasty.

I understand how 'frustrations' develop but it's not as though we 'pay' to use the site so are we 'being bought' . ?

I hope GNHQ manage to sort out your issues jolly.

Ana Tue 10-Nov-15 15:35:25

Thank you, GNHQ for updating the Discussions of the Day list!

I hereby withdraw my grumble...smile

soontobe Tue 10-Nov-15 15:45:15

I hesitate to post this, but here goes.

mumsnet HQ/gransnet could, if they really wanted to, employ more staff including techies who always seem to be in very short supply. They do, ahem, make quite a lot of money, out of presumably the advertising.
They wont take any notice, but thought I would post anyway.

loopylou Tue 10-Nov-15 15:46:15

Perhaps those who think they could do better could offer their services???
