OK I am well aware of the date, but this is a gross libel:-)
I was a Viking/Saxon Living historian for a quarter of a century, spending most of that time teaching authenticity and facts.

Everyone had a fine-tooth comb at that time (think lice), and the vikings were known for bathing and washing every week. This gave them a distinct advantage with Saxon girls, whose menfolk were not so fastidious.
